AIBU to want an underwired swimsuit?

Is this a weird desire?

I just want a one-piece swimsuit with actual proper underwired cups.

I usually wear a bikini on holiday as it's easy to buy one with a structured cup. But I always feel a bit weird turning up for normal indoor swimming in a bikini (I still do it though).

I was browsing in Debenhams yesterday and noticed, to my annoyance, that all the swimsuits had flimsy no-good bra sections. Most designs came in one piece and two piece. But only the two pieces had underwired cups.

I don't have big boobs - they're, at best, a C cup (depending on the time of the month). But they need help. They won't look good without proper support, sadly. I've breastfed two infants, and my bra-less days are definitely over. Why then, when my boobs are more on show, would I suddenly not need bra-like support??

Is it just me? Sad

Try figleaves swimwear section? They have some more supportive swim suits that aren’t horrid- although they are pricey

KC225 · 11/04/2018 18:30

I bought a nice pink under wired one from M&S last year

Cathpot · 11/04/2018 18:30

This one for instance is underwired

CornishYarg · 11/04/2018 18:31

YANBU at all - I have huge norks so underwiring is a must! I get mine from Bravissimo or Curvy Kate

TheDisreputableDog · 11/04/2018 18:32

I found that they were all really short in the body so went for a tankini from my usual bra/bikini brand and that worked much better.

TittyGolightly · 11/04/2018 18:32

Bravissimo have loads.

sonjadog · 11/04/2018 18:34

I agree. Very few swimsuits are made with enough breast support, in my experience.

Poshjock · 11/04/2018 18:38

Totally agree. I also was going to suggest Curvy Kate. I’ve always been heavy and droopy boobed and in a swimsuit they looked like they were sat on my belly. I have been known to wear a plain black underwire bikini top under my swimsuit! I’m currently in a tankini.

PaintedHorizons · 11/04/2018 18:39

I was going to say Bravissimo too. Brilliant! I now get all my swimwear and bras from there

As a 32 G I always found swimsuits impossible. Now I am older and a bit on the floppy side (Grin) I need proper cups but don't want to have a choice of black or black or worse look like a 95 year-old on a cruise in lurid florals!

SingingGoldfinch · 11/04/2018 18:42

Pricey but this looks like it could be really nice if the fit was right m.boden.co.uk/en-gb/womens-swimwear/swimsuits/s0040-spt/womens-navy_ivory-spot-alacati-cup-size-swimsuit

SerenDippitty · 11/04/2018 18:48

I bought this one from Marks & Spencer and I love it. I’m an F cup and it supports me fine, it has straps that you can wear crossed which helps and is great for me because I’m a bit short in the body. It comes in blue stripe too.

Lands End - I have an underwired tankini.

greathat · 11/04/2018 18:53

I get mine from bravissimo or figleaves. They aren't cheap though

MulberryPeony · 11/04/2018 18:56

Try Next. I have a couple of swimsuits with underwired cups from there.

AnxiousPeg · 11/04/2018 19:40

Thank you for all the suggestions - they've given me plenty to investigate.

It's good to know I'm not alone in my quest for suportive swimwear! I was just starting to think that everyone else was happily buying these flimsy things...

Try fantasie too esp now as lots on sale

LakieLady · 11/04/2018 19:50

YANBU. I haven't bought a new costume for years because I haven't been able to find an underwired one I like.

I saw a rather nice one the other day, in Sainsbury's of all places. It was red with white polka dots, and while I'm partial to a polka dot, red does nothing for my pasty white flesh.
