To ask for help , can’t use my sink

Can anyone help I am a bit clueless. Had to disconnect our washing machine because it’s been take away for a repair.
So now the nozzle that connects it to the kitchen sink waste pipe is open. So when I use the sink, water flows out of it the washing machine nozzle. Is there some kind of cap I can buy to stop this happening?

@PigletJohn

AjasLipstick · 11/04/2018 14:46

Under your sink there should be some pipes which are connecting the machine to your water supply. They're the hot and cold pipes...you should see by the direction in which they're going that they feed the machine....they go towards where it is.

On the pipes should be a valve to turn...that turns off their supply. Can you see that?

AjasLipstick · 11/04/2018 14:47

The valves...should have little levers. Often made of plastic and coloured red or blue.

MyDcAreMarvel · 11/04/2018 14:47

Yes I can see those but it’s the waste pipe not regular hot cold /pipes.

Buttocks this isn't Facebook or Twitter...you can't tag people. Grin

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 11/04/2018 14:49

Yes you can @AjasLipstick

MixedHerbs · 11/04/2018 14:53

Does the hole have a thread (or, did the wm waste screw into sink waste? If it did, you should be able to purchase a screw on cap fitting to seal it at any plumbers merchant. You'll need to check the diameter of the pipe it needs to fit.

ToastyFingers · 11/04/2018 14:55

I just stuffed a wodge of blu tak on the end and put a jar underneath to catch the drips, it was only for a week though so if you need a more long term solution I wouldn't advise this.

AjasLipstick · 11/04/2018 15:04

John is it a phone thing? I've never heard of that! I use a laptop or desktop...

AjasLipstick · 11/04/2018 15:05

More about the tagging thing...I hover over the @PigletJohn and it's not "live" for me...is that because I'm not Piglet or is it due to the device I'm using?

billyt · 11/04/2018 15:07

You can push a piece of plastic (carrier bag material?) into the spout to 'bung' it up. Another piece across the end and wrap around with adhesive tape for a temporary solution. Also, if it's adjustable, make sure the spout is pointing up.

ItStartedWithAKiss241 · 11/04/2018 15:08

Just stick a tea towel or something up the pipe for now? X

AnneProtheroe · 11/04/2018 15:08

When you use the @AjasLipstick the person you've tagged gets an email to let them know they've been mentioned in a thread

AjasLipstick · 11/04/2018 15:12

Anne thanks! Could you please mention me to see if I get one? Grin I

MyDcAreMarvel · 11/04/2018 15:13

Thanks , I will stick something up it for now. Then see if I can get some kind of cap.
Apparently it will take a week to replace the drum Hmm

Here is the Pigcave, the Pigphone has been jangling, when the Pigsignal was projected onto the clouds.

By chance, this same question cropped up a few days ago,

I seem to remember that when MNHQ introduced tagging someone said that PigletJohn would immediately turn his off! Grin

MereDintofPandiculation · 11/04/2018 21:59

And use some sticky pipe to fasten the pipe as high as possible - if you can get the end of the pipe higher than the level of the water in the sink, it won't run out anyway.

SealSong · 11/04/2018 22:08

Good grief, I've learned two really useful things on this thread, the pipe thingy and that you can tag people on mumsnet!
