Hello,

It's my 30-something brother's birthday this week and I'm not sure what to get him!

He's not into cars, gadgets or football. He has varied taste in music but he has all of his music on his iPhone and there aren't any DVDs that I can think of that he'd like.

He's a new Dad to a son (my amazing nephew!) and he loves travelling and foreign languages.

I'd rather not buy a boozey gift as I've bought him ale and whisky other years for birthdays/christmas.

Am I being unreasonable (sorry I'm posting for traffic!) to ask for your gift/present ideas so that I can order something before it's too late to buy something?

Thank you! :)

Voucher for a hotel? If he loves travelling then you can buy them for most of the big chains so he can choose where he uses it. Only a good gift if he actually has the cash to take a trip and you know he’d use it though! Which might be easier said than done if he’s a new dad.

Otherwise how about paying for him and his partner to have a meal out whilst you offer to babysit the little one?

Some sort of subscription? You can get them for all sorts of things: magazines, cheese, curry spices, toasted sandwiches....

My brother likes to travel and I got him a leather weekend bag/holdall last year, he loves it apparently. Uses it for the gym as well as weekends away

What’s your budget?

ferociousindependentandsquishy · 10/04/2018 16:13

A friend was starting to get into travel and I got him a scratch map to show where he'd been

Birdsgottafly · 10/04/2018 17:39

I was going to suggest a Scratch Map.

All the 30 somethings in our Family like Vouchers or Aftershave. You can get Vouchers for restaurants etc.

Lonely Planet publish a nice book about travelling with children.

Thanks so much everyone, lots of great ideas!

I'll definitely have a quick google of some of those gifts and see what can be delivered by Friday!
