Car acciedent-what else?

So I think I've missed something but maybe not. I nicked a parked car while exiting a Car park. I got out. Didn't notice any damage. Couldn't take a photo because my phone refused (low battery). Didn't have any paper/pen. Took a note of the registration number. I exited the car park and found somewhere suitable to park up. Returned to the building that the car park belongs to. I asked the receptionist to try to find the owner. She couldn't. I left my name and number with her in case they came looking. Am I supposed to do anything else? I assume that one doesn't report this kind of thing to the police? Does my insurer need to know. I know IABU for not knowing but this is the first time I have done this.

I don't think you need to do anything else - the only thing you could have done would have been to leave a note on the car, but it's too late for that now. I can't imagine the person would have noticed a nicked car and thought to ask the receptionist, so I very much doubt they got your details.

You can report to police via 101 or my local force does it online. Just covers you because you didn't leave a note. The police won't do anything but means you won't get done for leaving the scene of an accident without exchanging details. Technically you should tell your insurer (at least at renewal when they ask the question)

I did the same recently and did leave a note but worried about it so much that I reported it to the police (via online form)anyway incase the note blew off. The people got in touch with me and the police closed it out.

The other option is to leave it and do nothing. Even if they report you to the police you'll can say you tried to leave details. Depends on how bad the damage was and how likely it is you think they will follow it up? If it was minor most people will leave it

Sorry just noticed you said you couldn't see damage. I would probably leave it then Blush. It was obvious damage when I did it!

I reported using the online form. Can't afford to have any legal blemishes in my line of work. Thank you for the advice. I thought that I may have been overreacting.
