Requesting a Skype interview

Pp3000 · 10/04/2018 13:54

I've applied for a job at the other end of the country (near family - am looking to move back). For the first stage interview I travelled back and did it in person. I've now made it to the second stage of interviews and have raised the possibility of doing this one via Skype (expensive to travel and would need to take another day of annual leave that I'm not sure I can get)

The hr person seems to want to rearrange for an in person interview and hasn't replied to my suggestion of a Skype interview.

Am I being unreasonable to think it shouldn't be a big deal to do it over Skype? Is there any better way of framing this request again via email? Help!

If you want the job you’ll almost certainly need to travel. People just don’t like Skype interviews as much. They’d probably have been more likely to agree for a first round, but not travelling for a final round is unusual.

I’m surprised that the 1st interview was in person... I’m used to the first round being only ever done by phone/webex/Skype etc! I’d push for the Skype interview. Good luck!

We normally pay for people to travel for interview in our technical roles. Skype is commonly used for first interviews and then in person for 2nd interviews.

Skype for the 2nd interview is normal at my place. I would keep on for a Skype one :)
