Wearing clothes in a SAUNA

GreenTeek · 09/04/2018 21:31

Not a bikini

Not a swimsuit

But full on gym clothes and shoes

This is weird no?

I’ve joined a brand new gym. Sex segregated saunas. Women seem to have established a new norm whereby one woman wore full gym gear in the sauna....and then everyone followed suit.

Now I feel if I wore a bikini or a towel I would be the weird one Hmm

Very unusual indeed

Popc0rn · 09/04/2018 21:33

Opposite of my gym; single sex changing rooms and everyone's naked in sauna, steam room and jacuzzi...apart from me!!

MrsEricBana · 09/04/2018 21:34

Erm yep, 100% weird!

ForalltheSaints · 09/04/2018 21:37

In Germany not only would the wearing of clothes in a sauna be considered wrong, but wearing anything other than a towel around you.

MoistCantaloupe · 09/04/2018 21:37

You should be the weird one. What an odd thing for them all to do!

GreenTeek · 09/04/2018 21:40

I’m going to complain

OP posts:
GreenTeek · 09/04/2018 21:40

That’ll teach them

That must be so uncomfortable! Maybe some new people saw the first woman and copied, and are desperately waiting for one brave soul to wear a swimming costume or towel so they can do the same!

Be a trend setter!

TroubledLichen · 09/04/2018 21:43

That’s disgustingly unhygienic. And they must be so hot. Definitely complain and teach them some sauna etiquette.

Sirzy · 09/04/2018 21:43

Yuck that can’t be comfy, or hygienic

GreenTeek · 09/04/2018 21:47

Yes definitely think it’s people who have no previous sauna etiquette to draw on.

Did they dye their hair at the same time?

HildaZelda · 09/04/2018 21:59

Definitely weird. My gym has a mixed sex sauna. Everybody just wears swimsuits.

AwkwardSquad · 09/04/2018 22:05

They must be dying in there! How uncomfortable and ridiculous!

AwkwardSquad · 09/04/2018 22:06

And shoes? Ick. Are there no attendants?

Tailfeather · 09/04/2018 22:10

Maybe it's the material that is meant to help you lose weight faster when you get hot and sweaty? Maybe they've been doing hot yoga and actually find the sauna cold (!!). Wink

TheRagingGirl · 09/04/2018 22:14

It’s not just weird, it’s totally gross and dirty.

My gym is sex-segregated changing rooms and mixed sauna and steam room where we’re requested to wear swimsuits.

But still quite a few manky people who don’t shower first. That’s bad enough, but fully clothed. Gross and disgusting.

QueenDoris · 09/04/2018 22:24

My DH always wears a 3 piece suit in the sauna. Although he sometimes takes his tie off

stayanotherday · 09/04/2018 22:30

Lol!

TheLesserWeevil · 09/04/2018 22:31

A lovely little old lady used to wear a black bin bag in the sauna of my local gym, presumably to make her sweat more? We didn't speak each other's languages so I never really got to the bottom of it. She was in there a lot though, in her bag...

GreenTeek · 09/04/2018 22:34

Oh I think a bag/sauna suit is fine for boxers and major fitness people.

I’m going to go in stark vagina naked. They’ll soon learn

OP posts:
stayanotherday · 09/04/2018 22:47

I wear full evening dress and pearls.

Mumto2two · 09/04/2018 22:54

Hilarious! Stark naked was the norm in some of the European gyms I've been to. You'd be right at home Grin

BigChocFrenzy · 09/04/2018 23:50

My gym in Germany has both a women's sauna and a mixed one
Nudity / towels only, no swimsuits
I've never worn a swimsuit in a sauna in my life

BigChocFrenzy · 09/04/2018 23:51

I obviously move in very downmarket circles, cheapo gyms
