Posting here for traffic. I hope you can help me. I am having a real dilemma.

I am late 20s and was on a progesterone only pill for a year with no period. I then had a constant period for 6 months. I was taken off this pill and put onto combined pill mycrogynon which caused me mainly issues including vaginal dryness so I seen a gynocoligist who put me back on a different brand of POP pill - this time cirazette. I took it for a month but got a period during my usual monthly cycle.

I am getting married in 6 days then going on a 3 week honeymoon so I went to my doctor to discuss my options for not having a period whilst on cirazette. She suggested taking Microgynon for a month then going back on cirazette. I have one months prescription left so I have switched pill and now have pretty heavy break through bleeding. I am on day 17 of my period. My question is should I continue taking the pill and hope this bleeding stops by Sunday or stop the pill and have a period and hope it stops by Sunday ( 6 days time)? If I do the latter will I still get my usual period if I continue taking mycrogynon on honeymoon? I have only taken 3 microgynon pills.

Please help! I am running out of time.

Have you asked about norethisterone? It delays periods and I was offered it to stop bleeding when I had the wretched implant that made me bleed the entire time it was in so I imagine it stops bleeding too. I have used it to delay my period a few times and it’s a god send. Ask your GP about it.

notevenamum1 · 09/04/2018 14:25

Yes I was originally prescribed is by the doc to take 3 times a day but the pharmacist said it’s to delay your actual period and may by delay your “period” you get on your pill which isn’t real.

The main issue is that I have a fair amount of breakthrough bleeding right now but I am only on day 17 of my cycle and you don’t take noreith(insert rest of name here!) until 3 days before your period is due to start....

I typed too fast and that made little sense but I hope you know what I mean!

I would come off and your period should stop it's the hormones that's causing the bleeding. ive had the same problems going from one pill to another took 8 month for me to stop bleeding on the pop and gave me really bad acne so I came off it got first period took 6 weeks

MigGril · 09/04/2018 14:36

I've taken cirazette before and it can take 2 or 3 months for bleeding to stop. Actually think it took longer then that the first time I took it. Anyway as you have only taken 3 pills of the microgynon, I'd keep taking that. If you stop now who knows what will happen. Either way you may not be clear by 6 day's, but you should get to enjoy your honeymoon.

Good luck.

I’m so confused! This breakthrough bleeding is pretty heavy. I’ve heard that people can have a breakthrough bleed all the way through to when they take their break and I rewllt can’t be having that! My options are:

A) keep taking Microgynon and hope it stops within the next 6 days

B) stop taking Microgynon and hope my period comes and goes within the next 6 days

Aahhhh

I used to have really heavy periods and before I started taking the pill, my GP gave me tranexamic acid to take if I was due on a special occasion like a holiday etc. It makes the bleeding less heavy, might be a idea?

I'd keep taking the microgynon if I were you, if you've had a 6 month period before. Hope it gets sorted for you!

notevenamum1 · 09/04/2018 14:55

Thanks @popc0rn - bloody hell I hope not. What a start to married life!

I had so many problems with the pill. Swapped to depot last March. Have not bled at all since. Total bliss.

TooGood2BeFalse · 09/04/2018 18:23

Go for the Microgynon.I was about to begin my period when I started taking it and it stopped. No idea if that is usual, but had no side effects from it and worked well for me.

divadee · 09/04/2018 18:28

When you come back from your honeymoon ask the Dr if you can try cilest.

My daughter had issues on the pop and then microgynon but cilest sorted her period issues out. I also used it for about 18 years with no problems whatsoever. Now too old for it unfortunately.

Whatshallidonowpeople · 09/04/2018 20:07

We'll I've been on microgynon and maexani since October and bled pretty much the whole time so good luck!

TaytoAllDay · 10/04/2018 14:49

PIP i was constantly bleeding and even after i came off it took about a week for the bleeding to stop, i reckon its safer to come off it and get the bleeding to stop rather than stay on it in my experience.
It's not the healiest thing but seeing as it's your wedding, iBuprofen helps to stop/delay periods so maybe take this a couple of times a day leading up to the wedding to lessen it.
Look into another form of contraception instead of the pill if this is what you experience Flowers

notevenamum1 · 10/04/2018 22:33

An update in case anyone cares! Had a telephone consultation with the doctor who said to take cerazette and Microgynon at the same time which I have and low and behold sorting is minimal!

Not ideal as Microgynon gave me some pretty bad side effects some of which made sex pretty painful wk maybe it’s a natural contraceptive if it makes you unable to have sex!

Anyway for now I’m glad to not be bleeding and I’m hopeful to not have a period on honeymoon....not only for the obvious reasons but I’ll be travelling India so I’d rather not have the inconvenience of a tampon!

Longer term I need to find the right contraceptive for me as I really don’t think the pill is the answer.

Thanks for all your help ladies x

Sorry if this is too personal a question and feel free not to answer but did the cerazette help with the dryness? I was on cerazette for a few years with no issues, got the implant and after a while started to bleed constantly and the dryness was terrible. I had the implant removed about 6 months ago but there's not been much of an improvement and not sure what to try next!

notevenamum1 · 10/04/2018 23:51

Hi @festivecheer26 I used to be on another brand of progesterone only pill (Fenola I think) which worked perfectly for me for a year then I bled continuously for 6 months so I was switched to Microgynon a combined pill. This is when the dryness started and it was awful and caused so many issues so I feel for you!! Only been on cerazette for a month and it feels better but I think too early to say...especially as I am now punishing my body with more Microgynon for the sake of no period 😭

If you find something that works for you please share it with me so I can try too!
