I’ve just started working for a great family one day a week. I’m OFSTED reg and they are paying me through edenred vouchers, when asked if I would like to be paid weekly or monthly I said weekly as it’s a great top up every week. (I also work in a nursery 3 days a week and get paid monthly which can draaaaag). Problem I’m having is that I work a Wednesday and she pays me then but I’m not getting the money until the following week which is a bit of a pain. Would I be unreasonable to ask her to pay me on the Tuesday so it comes through on the Friday? I’m sure they’ll probably be okay about it but I always overthink these things and don’t want to piss them off. I always work the same amount of hours so it wouldn’t be a case of them knowing what I worked until the Wednesday.

WIBU to ask?

I wouldn't. Effectively you'd be asking her to authorise your pay in advance of you working.
I assume you get paid in arears for your nursery job too?

If it's regular work and you're getting paid every Monday (say) then does it make much difference to your financial planning? Do they know that a day's difference at their end makes two or three days' difference at yours because of the weekend?

If they were willing to pay you monthly, was that going to be in arrears or partly? e.g. being paid for the whole of April on 17th April.

I think it's worth asking but they might not see what difference it makes.

I suppose it doesn’t make much difference, just a bit of a pain that’s all. I asked to be paid weekly as it’s a great top up (live on my own) for gas, electric, food, petrol etc and as I don’t get time during the week to get these things I go on the weekend so was hoping to use that money then but as it doesn’t come through until the Monday/Tuesday I can’t. I don’t think they realise it’s taking so long to come through as when she paid the money into my edenred account the first time she said it would go straight into my bank account (but obviously didn’t) 😂 I’ve never worked for a family who use vouchers as my last nanny family used tax credits so it’s all a bit new to me. Thanks for your replies

Sorry to answer your question yes it is regular work, on a Wednesday roughly around 9 hours. We also have a contract that states if they don’t need me they still pay me so it’s definitely regular income

In those circumstances I think it's reasonable for you to let them know there's a two- or three-day lag between their making payment and your receiving it, and asking if they could possibly make it a day sooner.
