To worry about Russia

With Trump imposing sanctions on the Russian oligarchs, (the ones connected to Putin.)I'm frightened of where it's all going to end. I'm feeling quite scared tbh. Putin seems set on weakening the west. Can anyone offer any reassurance. I'm feeling very anxious about the worsening relationship.

It's all a diplomatic, posturing merry go round. Nobody actually wins if the whole thing stops. And there is nothing you or I can do about it.

I hope that's all it is. Wish i could stop worrying about stuff like this.

I'm sure Putin isn't a saint, but I can't help feeling that the West are provoking Russia right now. I don't think we get very honest news. I'm sure Russians don't either. It seems like a lot of propaganda is going on. Somebody wants a war, I don't know why?

I thought the situation with Korea was more worrying before Xmas tbh?

Putin is Russia's Thatcher at the moment. Whereas Thatcher was in a different time and place, Putin is on the international scale. The Oligarchs in London fall into two camps. Those with Putin and those against. The money-laundering was and still is incredible. All around TV stations, Russian art and fossil-fuels. But the Oligarchs got their money out of Russia and the former Soviet states. Some with and some against Putin.

I dread to think what Russia would look now, and its neighbouring states, if he were not in control. I think he will push, push, push, for Russia but understands all human limits.

NameChanger I agree. I know I sound a bit tinfoil hat but I'm quite suspicious of what we see on the news, like they only tell us what they want us to hear/see. I don't think Russia is a threat really, and all this is to divert us away from what's really going on.

I agree with pp that Putin understands people's limits. He's not survived this long without being cunning and clever.

I think it is healthy to be sceptical, but there is a reason why other countries have also expelled russian diplomats, even though Germany 2 days later quietly signed of on a new pipeline from russia you have to remember who wasn't behind going into iraq and who have come out in support.

Of course we are never going to know the ins and outs of what goes on behind the scenes in geopolitics, but also remember that it was only last year that Russia was the bogeyman re Trump and Brexit so for a lot of people to do an about face now does seem to be quite funny to see.
