To think some people are just taunts

I posted on here just the other day about my daughters birthday. I don't have a lot of money with 4 dc to pay for and she asked for a laptop. I found a model same as my own so I knew it would play the games she likes and a lovely neon pink colour on gumtree. There was no way I could buy new, having only just got back on top after Christmas.

She absolutely loved it on her birthday yesterday, but today, the laptop has died. It is overheating.

Having experience with computers and a qualification, I opened it up for a look inside, expecting the fan to be choked with dust. First I noticed the many missing screws from the motherboard. Then what looked like old dried cola stains scattered across the motherboard and in some of the connectors.

Long story short, there is no way of fixing it with cola damage and it will completely die soon.

There is absolutely no way the person that was selling it did not know there was a problem, as they had clearly been inside it before.

Money down the drain and I have to somehow scrape together more cash to replace it.

AIBU to think some people have no shame?

I would use a word that rhymes with twunts!

That’s really rubbish. Sad

Complete twunts indeed (keep getting same auto-correct as you with that one). How disappointing for your DD!

Argos sell refurb laptops via their eBay store starting at around the £100 mark, with 12 month warranty if that's any use. If your budget will only stretch to a private seller, you might be better off using eBay and paying via Paypal, which gives you some comeback if the item isn't as described (you can also check seller feedback in advance). I sound like a bit of an eBay advert (sorry) but I've bought 2 laptops via eBay in the past and both were fine.

Yes, they sound like twunts but, if it's functioning now there's no reason it can't continue to function.

Clean it all off with high percentage alcohol. It'll probably be fine. Maybe a new fan if coke is in the bearings / bushings.
