To use this bacon?

I opened some bacon on Saturday evening but didn't get to use it. Would it still be ok to use now? There is quite a bit so would it be fine after four days of being open to put the rest in freezer? It's been in a Tupperware container in the fridge.

I wouldn't, DH would.

Sorry if that doesn't help!

DannyLaRuesBestFrock · 04/04/2018 19:11

Well I would have no issue with it, but I have a cast iron stomach. Dh and I would eat it, but I wouldn't give it to the kids.

I would - it's cured meat so it's preserved already and it's been covered in the fridge - don't waste food.

unless it is green, shimmery and making a run for the door then use it.

it's salted meat, it's designed to be kept for ever!

HannaPintura · 04/04/2018 19:14

Hi thanks for your replies. I have a fairly tough stomach so I might have a sniff see if it's fine :)

Yeah bacon keeps for ages

icelollycraving · 04/04/2018 19:15

God yes. I’m quite laid back about using open bacon, salami etc.

EastMidsMummy · 04/04/2018 19:15

Saturday? This Saturday just gone? Four days ago? In the fridge? Absolutely fine.

3boysandabump · 04/04/2018 19:17

Bacon would last 4 weeks in the fridge never mind 4 days

MrsPreston11 · 04/04/2018 19:22

What’s the date on it? Bacon is normally weeks. If it’s been in the fridge, in Tupperware then you’re fine.

Oysterbabe · 04/04/2018 19:25

I would and have used much older bacon than that without I'll effect.

Tink2007 · 04/04/2018 19:26

I would without a second thought. In fact I did yesterday and it had been open about 6 days!

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 04/04/2018 19:28

Bacon isn’t even sold until it’s 30 years old. True fact that.
Nah, joking, I’m a vegetarian so no experience of bacon but curing is an ancient way of preserving meat prior to refrigeration (or even ice houses etc) so doubt four days in a fridge will hurt.

Astrid2 · 04/04/2018 19:28

I wouldn't freeze it today but I would definitely cook and eat it today!

Fascinate · 04/04/2018 19:30

Sniff it, if it's ok cook it. If it still smells ok, it's fine.
