To warn you about this Ebay scam

A while ago I got an e mail from Ebay advising of suspicious activity. I logged in and changed my password and noticed they had tried to buy an iPad. It hadn't been paid for so I contacted Ebay and they cancelled my order. I wondered what the person doing this had got out of it but thought nothing more of it until now.

I just went to order something and noticed that the scumbag had changed my saved address . It still read as the first line of my address but then extra details added in plus they changed my postcode.

I never noticed this on the last order I made so my last purchase has been dispatched to their address.

Give it to the police. Go round

Being careful with security would help in the first instance. If you don't let them have access to your account to begin with it doesn't happen.

Do not click on links in e.mails for a start. It might be useful to inexperienced users if you post this on the Ebay boards too.

DeepfriedPizza · 04/04/2018 16:07

I've put it on the Ebay boards

These days, I wouldn't trust my money with any organisation that doesn't provide some form of 2FA.

Just for completeness, there have been suggestions that SMS-based 2FA is vulnerable to interception, but that said, you're still much much safer with that than nothing.

By the way, there is also a weakness in the Shutl postage system on Ebay. Ebay pass them details of your PayPal address which they then use for returns (if you are a buyer returning an item). However, they will use whatever credit card/PayPal has been registered, regardless of whether it has expired or been deleted from Ebay or PayPal.

If you have an expired card you need to check that it is not set (with the issuer) to auto-update on websites or you can find you are being charged without knowing you have consented.

Happened to me, but luckily PayPal were straight onto it, he'd changed my address to his own in Russia, AND changed my ebay name to Dr_joke.
Annoyingly, I can't get his real name off my account
