To give neighbour insurance details

Getting a bag out of my car I think I scratched my neighbour's car. I went to tell him and give him my details but he rubbed the scratch off and said he didn't want them. However there is a dent from opening a door onto his car which was a bit lower down and I know I didn't do but he thinks I did do. I think I should give him my details anyway because it's the right thing to do and him not taking them makes me feel even worse or would you wait and see if he asks for the dent?

No, he will have seen where the scratch is in relation to the dent.

You didn't do it.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/04/2018 17:08

And if/when he says "You aren't a good neighbour" tell him he's got a cheek as a good neighbour wouldn't try to make a false claim!

Nip out and grab a picture of the rubbed clean spot in relation to the dent... take a second if you can: open your car door to it. Both should show if your car made the dent!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/04/2018 17:10

And I have to say it again, more clearly!

Why are you blathering about "It's the right thing to do" when he is, if you are right, trying to screw you over and commit insurance fraud?

mickeysminnie · 03/04/2018 17:34

Am I right in saying you offered your details and he refused to take them? Why would you think he is going to try and claim for the dent? Surely he would have taken your details if he was going to claim for anything?

ourkidmolly · 03/04/2018 17:36

Well if he's brushed off the scratch why would he be chasing you over a dent? Sounds like a good bloke.

SparklyLeprechaun · 03/04/2018 17:40

If he didn't want your details why are you still thinking you should give them to him? He'd be an idiot to claim on the insurance for a small dent.

Louiselouie0890 · 03/04/2018 19:35

I'm confused. He didnt want your details but you think he's sure you did the dent. Why would he have e not taken your details then?

Lacucuracha · 03/04/2018 19:37

He's taking the piss now. Refuse to pay a penny.

Louiselouie0890 · 03/04/2018 19:42

How is he taking the piss? Am I reading wrong? He hasn't asked for anything.

Fruitcorner123 · 03/04/2018 19:42

How are you sure he thinks you who made the dent? If he asks you again say the dent isn't in the same place and was there already but you are happy to claim responsibility for the scratch you did cause.

If he doesn't ask dont give him the details.

CheesecakeAddict · 03/04/2018 20:09

Thanks. I'm so weird with things like this because I get so engulfed in guilt. But yes, he said he didn't want my details but then blamed me for the dent. I am half expecting him knocking on my door but I think I'm being paranoid

OP, do some online assertiveness courses!

Don't let people blame you unfairly for things and learn to stand up for yourself.
