How can I stay fit, mobile and loose weight?

Hi. I have hypothyroidism and have recently started having stiff knee and ankle joints. Up until the last week I used to jog for 10-15 minutes every morning whilst on a half hour walk with the dog. I have stopped this as it appeared to aggravate my joints more. I don’t want to stop this but I believe that my weight may be causing the problem with my joints. (I’m a size 16-18 so not small).
Does anyone have any advice on keeping fit when not able to jog (bearing in mind my only time for exercise during the day is between 5-6am in the mornings) and how do I loose weight which has always proved difficult!
I do 20 minutes of yoga in the evenings. I always find it difficult to loose weight from my butt and thighs - they are big!

Are you still walking with the dog? That's good exercise. Tbh 10 - 15 minutes jogging won't be burning that many calories anyway. They say loosing weight is 80% eating less and 20% exercise. So keep doing the gentle exercise and focus on the eating part. Good luck!

Swimming? I swim a couple times a week on top of going to the gym, if my joints hurt (I have a dodgy hip) I just swim.

Di you know why you have stiff knees and ankles? Could be an indication of problems elsewhere, feet, hips have you referred to physio? Dont give up on running yet, it can be hard to start again ( as i know!)

I have fibromyalgia, I swim 1-2 miles every day. I've just started Aqua therapy and oh my goodness does it help my joints.

Can you get some advice from a local gym? So many of my friends swear by yoga and pilates as well as swimming

Walking is great and swimming but if you're having lots of joint issues and pain maybe try and exercise physiologist- like very fancy personal trainer - they'll be able to work out a program that will accommodate your issues

Thanks all. I did the jogging to get my heart rate up and was enjoying it. I was previously comfortable with my weight as it always been pretty consistent and it’s very hard to shift any! However I am now going to try my fitness pal again and will look into the local gym and swimming pool.
It’s just so tricky fitting things in around the kids. It’s really convenient doing things early in the morning before the day starts. Also gives you a smug feeling that you’ve started the day well!

I have fibromyalgia and now spinal arthritis long with other conditions so have to mobilise my joints in a non weight bearing way

My physio recently got me using a mini trampoline and it’s really improved my very stiff ankles and stopped my spine locking up so much

Sadly with weight it’s learnng to eat smart and move more.

I use a Fitbit to monitor myself along with eufi scales which provide weight information to my Fitbit account. Combined with weight watchers diet I’ve lost 13lb in 5 weeks

Vegancatlover - are you me? I’m also vegan, love cats and have fibromyalgia.

At the moment my exercise is walking the dog up to an hour a day. Been recommended swimming but the water is always too cold for me, it actually hurts.
