Bloody edf

This is a long story. So I am entitled to the warm homes discount, which was meant to be due by yesterday. A few weeks ago I had a live chat to query when it would arrive, as my friend had received hers. Had to confirm all my details, told to wait. A week later I had another online chat, because I had requested a smart metre and wanted an update, again confirmed details.

Anyway, last night I had a live chat as my warm homes didn't arrive - confirmed my details again.

During this phone call the gentleman said that edf no longer supplied my gas, I insisted they did (I haven't changed supplier) and then they sent me details that stated my supply had switched as of 7th december. Electric still with them, however.

Anyway - the guy then switches me to his supervisor, saying he can't give me an update of my warm homes, just wait - obviously I told him that it was meant to have arrived by 31st march.

Supervisor asked me to confirm my address, then told me I had it wrong - gave me another address, which I explained was no my address and their error as I had previously been send letters and asked why no one told me I had given a different address when I had been confirming.

At the end of a 90minute live chat, I got absolutely no where. No one could help me, so I have no idea why my gas supplier has changed, where my warm homes discount is, and worse still when I telephoned to change my name when I got married, they actually marked me as deceased and my married name as executor.

I don't really know what my aibu is, I just want some advice and am posting here for traffic.

I feel your pain. It took me 7 phonecalls and four bills before Scottish Power actually issued an accurate bill.

kitkatsky · 01/04/2018 19:13

Ive has similar with npower. Wouldn’t use anyone other than British Gas anymore

SloanePeterson · 01/04/2018 19:13

I know this doesn’t help your frustration (and I feel it, when we moved edf we’re absolutely terrible sorting out our bill) but the warm home grant isn’t actually money you see, it’s just credited to your bill so will come off future bills.

AsuraGuardian · 01/04/2018 19:15

They're a nightmare. It took them 3 years to spell my husband's name right. We told them every single time we spoke to them (which was a few times a year) and every time they said they would change it. His name is Christopher, every bill it was spelt Chrisdiopheer. I mean... What?

Stop paying your gas - you'll soon find out who supplies your gas.

GrooovyLass · 01/04/2018 19:25

Unless you have a prepayment meter the WHD just gets credited to your electricity account.

Ask them about an "erroneous transfer" with your gas. It's when another supplier accidentally takes your supply over.

CanIhavedessertfirst · 01/04/2018 19:26

I'm currently on a prepay meter, I've been waiting to change to a smart meter and bills since we moved here in September 2016! I never had problems with EDF until I moved, but they've been shocking over the last 2 years! I Don't understand how they can make the same errors after having it explained so many times! I'm sorry for the rest of you having similar experiences. It's terrible, isn't it?

@GrooovyLass oh I've never heard of that, but you may actually be right. I am 45 and my neighbour is 45a, so that seems likely.

Hate EDF. It took months for them to agree to test our (clearly faulty) meter, as they insisted that meters are never faulty. When the man eventually came to take it away, the electric display was still going up as he stood with it completely disconnected in his hand 🙄. I wanted to punch the air when we got the report saying it was so faulty it couldn’t be properly and EDF finally waived our stupid bill.

Anyway, there is a national phone number that you can call to find out our gas supplier. Have a look for the Meter Number Helpline.

Not much advice OP except to suggest you speak to the actual complaints department rather than a supervisor at the call centre. Once a complaint procedure has been set in motion they have a certain period of time to sort it out - think it may be 8 weeks but I'm not 100% sure - if they don't sort it out by that time you can take it to the energy ombudsman.

I've had problems with every energy company I've been with over the last 10 years or so.

Had a nasty run in with British Gas, will never use them again.

Had problems with npower, which was eventually sorted out and resulted in them giving me a couple of compensation payments.

And when I moved to my current address it took a year before I could get Scottish Power to take any money out of my bank account on a direct debit.

Every time they sent me a bill because nothing had been paid, I'd phone them up and explain that I'd spoken to someone - always took a name of the person I spoke to - and a DD had been set up. Over the year I actually set up 4 different DDs. Still no money was taken.

After a year they managed to sort themselves out but it meant I was having to pay over £200 a month for the following year to settle the outstanding amount.

Bloody useless the lot of them.

SingaSong12 · 01/04/2018 19:37

That's rubbish- have you contacted the company they say are new gas supplier?

Brys125 · 01/04/2018 19:44

Send an email detailing all the issues you have faced, make it very clear you want the issue treated as a compliant and if they do not rectify the issue you will contact the ombudsmen. If after 8 weeks of your complaint being raised you still do not get the help you need approach the ombudsmen. I'm one of thier rivals employees so familiar with the process.

honeysucklejasmine · 01/04/2018 20:25

pigs it is annoying! It's like Scottish Power don't actually want my money. Our dual fuel bill (when eventually correctly issued) was £500. So very annoying, we've now switched supplier!
