Teacher you had was and why?

OP posts:
Aridane · 01/04/2018 16:21

( the male teachers who touched us up - 1970s )

jayho · 01/04/2018 16:22

Aridane just beat me to it

Rainboho · 01/04/2018 16:22

The teacher who I confided in about my eating disorder who told me that I just needed to treat food as fuel and stop being so silly.

Babababababybel14 · 01/04/2018 16:22

Food tech teacher in high shool. She had a voice that could break glass when she was angry and she didn't take any shit. Everyone was scared of her. She caught me smoking once and I thought I was about to be butchered Grin

iklboo · 01/04/2018 16:25

The male teacher who thought nothing of sly punches to the arms & back even to girls when we were coming into school after break or going to classes after assembly. Usually under the pretence of 'not being in line properly'. Same one threw chalk & board rubbers.

The female art teacher who ridiculed pupils' work and tore it up in front of the class. Or made you tear it up yourself.

IHaveBrilloHair · 01/04/2018 16:25

PE teachers, all of them
Actually not sure it was them personally or school policy but the shower horror, and the gym skirt nightmare.
Why, why do that to teenage girls?

CatLadyToddlerMother · 01/04/2018 16:27

My high school form tutor, who thought I was attention seeking and needed to "pull myself together" even when she witnessed another girl in the form pushing me and verbally abusing me.

cafenoirbiscuit · 01/04/2018 16:28

The one who belittled me infront of the whole class, and said I wouldn’t pass my A level. I passed.

Aprilmightmemynewname · 01/04/2018 16:28

Maths teacher who shouted so much I cried every lesson. Was never helped and failed maths every exam.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 01/04/2018 16:31

Junior school teacher who taught me yrs 3 to 5.
Horrible woman. She had her favourite little pets and also the kids she hated and she'd go out of her way to upset them. I was one of these.
She loved making me cry and crowing "Oh here come the waterworks!"
I was purposefully held back on the reading scheme and in other areas.
I only discovered this when I had a different teacher in year 6 who was incredulous about the level of work I was doing and skipped me forward. My school reports went from "This child is difficult, doesn't try and is disruptive." to "Works hard, conscientious."
I was painfully shy and she considered me a bad influence on the child I was sat next to. She decided where I sat! I was already on the thick table.

DarkRosaleen · 01/04/2018 16:32

A nun, she loved all the pupils from well off families and ridiculed all the others.
My son had the worst one ever. She clearly disliked boys, and clearly favored the clever children. So my poor son, not the most acedemically successful student, was a double loser.
I had to speak to her privately and tell her to buck her ideas up as she was failing my child. She was so surprised she just nodded. The year after my son left this school she was suspended for slapping a child across the face.

4yoniD · 01/04/2018 16:38

PE teacher who screamed, belittled, bullied and hit us.

She thought she was popular. Years after I left someone told her what we all thought of her. She was horrified, and apparently changed completely !!

I could also mention my biology teacher who had deep pockets

CuriousaboutSamphire · 01/04/2018 16:40

The uber religious cookery teacher who joyously bellowed to all and sundry that my cakes would be biscuits and gave me a zero when it came out all lovely and fluffy and deep.

Not for that, but for her religious fervour and nastiness.

She, apparently, had her doubts about my 'pureness'. I am not sure if she actually meant virginity, she may just have meant cleanliness - I was 12 years old and was mortified by her questioning me about my purity in the middle of cookery lesson. But vengeance was mine, as she was subsequently publicly humiliated over it by my mother (ex Sunday school teacher) who traded biblical quotes with her until she cried.

That's the one and only time my mother stood up for me... and it was very, very public. I hate that teacher for her own actions and for giving my mother a wonderful tale with which to prove she was a kind, nurturing woman!

Lizzie48 · 01/04/2018 16:47

I went to a private convent school for girls, where the headteacher (a nun) had it in for me all the way through the primary school. She had such a low opinion of me, she told my DM that I would never pass a public examination. Lol, I have 2 degrees at 2:1, so much for her prediction!! Grin

Shouldileavethedogs · 01/04/2018 16:47

PE teacher who made all girls strip naked for showers while she watched and proceeded to tell a married male teacher (She was having an affair with and his wife was a teacher in the same school) who had mire hair and biggest boobs. She would do this during our next gym session. All stood in a row and she would pick us out.

ealingwestmum · 01/04/2018 16:53

Same as above poster - female PE teacher who would make us fling our towels on top of communal walk through shower, then take them mid shower, and have us stand naked whilst she would taunt us with 'is it this one, or this one...' for ages.

What was it with teachers in the 70's/early 80's?

theDudesmummy · 01/04/2018 16:54

PE teacher who threw me into the pool because I was scared to put my head underwater (aged about 6, having become afraid after having been thrown into another pool by a sadistic great-uncle)

Wdigin2this · 01/04/2018 16:55

Male teacher, who frightened the life out of us, hit us, slapped us and generally made my life a misery for the whole year....no wonder I never liked school after that!

ALongHardWinter · 01/04/2018 16:56

Babababababybel14 Sounds like you and I had the same teacher! But when I was at school it was called Domestic Science, not Food Tech. She was awful and I remember being terrified of her. Her name didn't begin with 'L' by any chance?!

Drainedandconfused · 01/04/2018 16:57

I was at school during the 80's and didn't experience anything like this, there were some teachers who were nicer than others but these stories are horrific!

maygirl27 · 01/04/2018 16:57

There were a number of not so good, but the worse ones I've dealt with more recently are my son and my daughter's respective year 5 teachers. One punished my son by making him sit on a table on his own. At the end of the week, when I felt that the punishment was enough, she told me that it was going to continue for the rest of the school year. Thankfully the headteacher saw that this wasn't in his best interests and intervened when I complained.

My daughter's year 5 teacher was worse. My daughter was bullied by a group of girls in her year at primary - in spite of complaints. One day the nasty little group who were bullying her, decided to try an trip her up in class. She witnessed this, did nothing to the bullies, but grinned when my daughter fell. Bitch.

EdmundCleverClogs · 01/04/2018 16:58

Why do you ask?

Wildlady · 01/04/2018 16:58

I can't say I had am horrible PE teacher. I did have a yr 1 teacher who used to scream.

All the technology teachers were horrible too.

The funny thing is now as a teacher I'm quite stern and strict myself.

Wildlady · 01/04/2018 17:01

@Edmund

I read an article last week about how teachers used to be more horrible in 70s and 80s than in recent years.

My Home Economics teacher. I was really well behaved, but I remember her shouting at me across the classroom, for tidying up my work station. You can't please all of the people...

Now, my Physics teacher was and is absolutely delicious.

I actually had more trouble with my daughter's teachers, including being shouted at in the playground in front of other parents. Really professional.
