When CAN you feed a Mogwai?

My six year old has just pointed out that it’s ALWAYS after midnight. So when can you feed them? Between midday and midnight? After sunrise? After sunset but before twelve?

I am very confused.

(And yes, I know it’s a Christmas film but it’s what they all picked to watch)

Your DC is very bright!

I think the safest meal would be brunch. And maybe a light dinner? Supper would be a no no in case you forgot to put the clocks forward.

Singlebutmarried · 01/04/2018 10:55

I always assumed that sleeping resets the after midnight bit

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 01/04/2018 10:58

Awwww. İ thought you had cute a baby gremlin pet, then. Grin
Excellent question from you DD, though

piebarm · 01/04/2018 10:58

Your 6 year old has seen gremlins ?

BigDamnHero · 01/04/2018 10:58

That always annoyed me as a pedantic child, as well!

EeeSheWasThin · 01/04/2018 10:58

I always thought once it got to being light the next morning, then it’s the next day.

Good spot!

AlonsoTigerHeart · 01/04/2018 10:59

Do the mogwai know when the clocks change and adjust accordingly?

ChishandFips33 · 01/04/2018 11:02

So glad it wasn't just me - no-one ever answered this for me other than 'just watch the film'!

What an astute child you have - they will do well in life Grin

iklboo · 01/04/2018 11:04

DS asked this as well. We told him it meant between midnight & sunrise but he was still Hmm

AuditAngel · 01/04/2018 11:10

I wisjph DD1 (11) would watch Gremlins, my kids are wimps, like DH. Even kiddy scary is a Nono, except DD2 (7) loves zombies

MumUndone · 01/04/2018 11:10

Agree - after sunrise is fine. I think that before 6am is after midnight and after 6am becomes before midnight.

turnipfarmers · 01/04/2018 11:12

Whenever you like today, the Mogwai welfare council have issued a special dispensation to all Mogwai owners.

EphraimLevi · 01/04/2018 11:24

Re the 6yo watching it, it’s rated 12 and would probably have been a 12a in the cinema if released today, and they’ve all seen it before anyway. He loves a good scare.

It was a 15 when it came out though. And I watched it when it came out on video so I would only have been about 6. And it never did me any harm .

I’m very excited that the eldest (15) can now watch Alien and Terminator. But not the sequels (both 18s). So we are a bit careful about age ratings. But 12s are usually fair game. Except The Dark Knight, that was brutal.

What happens when you take your pet Mogwai abroad into another time zone? Confused

EphraimLevi · 01/04/2018 11:27

Exactly! So many questions.

Bumblesnout · 01/04/2018 11:32

Well this is funny because me, dh and my sis had this exact conversation yesterday. Dh and sis said that "obviously" it resets at 6am!?! Not sure this is actually based on anything in particular. I think maybe it resets when the sun comes up (but not sure why this would be the case Grin). This question has annoyed me for the last 20+ years. My dh says I need to move on and accept the poetic licence but I just think that if there are rules in a film about something then it all needs to make sense Grin sigh

EphraimLevi · 01/04/2018 11:34

Yes! Exactly! I can cope with mystical creatures who multiply in water and turn into evil gremlins, but I can’t deal with wishy washy rules that don’t make logical sense, dammit.

Scared the shit out of me Easter Grin

NotASingleFuckToGive · 01/04/2018 13:38

If I travel with my Mogwai from England over to Australia on New Year's Eve, I presume I can feed them at midnight, since it's technically still lunchtime on December 31st in the birth region where their circadian rhythm was set.

Disclaimer: I don't have a Mogwai and have given this topic far too much thought

SistersOfPercy · 01/04/2018 13:49

Typically, nobody in this house is capable of following simple instructions....

When CAN you feed a Mogwai?
sueelleker · 01/04/2018 16:16

I always wondered the same thing.

ZanyMobster · 01/04/2018 16:23

My DCs watched it at about 6, they laughed all the way through, they definitely weren't scared.

My assumption was that it was from midnight till when it was daylight. That explanation (that I made up)satisfied me as a child as it really bugged me too.
