To resign over email?

I've worked at this place for 6ish years. I've recently decided to resign to be a sahm and do some freelance work. I know i should speak to my boss in person but i want to resign asap and now hardly ever see her. The meeting i arranged a few weeks ago (about something else) she cancelled and she's generally out of the office or busy, so i can't just pop into her office.

I dont want to burn my bridges with the company in case i might want to look to return sometime. But i also don't feel that loyal as since i went on mat leave for the second time I've felt sidelined e.g. i returned to work in august last year and still not had a back to work meeting - only ever quick corridor chats. She's cancelled the 2 meetings I've asked for. WIBU to email my resignation over the weekend??

I think you need to email her notice that you want to resign - what's your notice period?

I’d do it by email but preface it with you wanted to do it face to face but haven’t been able to

Ive done it by email before, in a nice way. And then talked about it when they are ready. I actually think it’s a better way, so they aren’t shocked x

Most resignations are required in writing, so I don't see why an email should be any different. Just end it with sincere positives of your time there.

Just send a reallly polite email and explain younwouldnhave done it face to face but have not managed to catch her

Thanks all. I think i feel bad doing it over email as its a small team and we used to be friendly. But as i said i feel I've been sidelined since then and pretty much left to it so maybe i shouldnt feel too bad.
