To think the boiler is haunted?

Just got a new boiler a couple of weeks ago and the Nest system to turn it on and off with our phones. All good at first.

For the last 3 nights the boiler has been turning itself on at 2.30 am. The Nest app and the actual controller thermostat thing both say it's switched off both for heating and hot water but it's firing up and making the whooshy noises it normally does when it's on. Radiators are cold

It's woken me up as the hot water tank is above my bedroom and it kind of clunks on. But annoying. Why is it doing this?

Is it cold where you are? My boiler turns itself on as a safety feature when it falls below a set temp I think.

Ah OK that makes sense!

Scared the Shit out of myself last night when I was up with the baby at 2am. Surprisingly loud noises coming from the utility room. Suddenly remembered that our water softener cleans itself at that time each night. Could it be something similar?

It was definitely the boiler...

Our water tank does this even when it's all off. I thought it was just venting or something. Scared me the first time tho
