Waiting for Perfect Job

I had a job interview this morning with a company I'd love to work for. In the interview I seemed to "click" with the interviewer. I answered the questions really well. I performed well in the tests and presentation I had to do.
And now I've been called to say that it may be a while until they have a decision. (After the bank holidays) as one of the interviews has been rescheduled to Thursday afternoon. I feel sick and don't know how I'm going to wait the 7 days until I know if I've got the job. They are interviewing 10 people, so the chances are I won't have it. AIBU to be so impatient?

Congrats on getting the interview in the first place and doing so well in it.

You are being reasonable with your impatience but it would be unreasonable to torture yourself with it if you get my drift.

Out of 10 people a few are likely to have choked, a few just wouldn't have clicked with the interviwer, someone might have had a criminal record for murder and one may have forgot to turn up - so your in with a good chance!

Distract yourself and enjoy the chocolatey wkend!

-crosses fingers for you-

No, YANBU. I'm in the same shoes - interviewed for a job I really want (and could do with, since I'm living on redundancy money), waiting to hear and it could be any time now.

I sympathise with the nerves, when decisions are being made that will affect you and you can't do anything but wait while the anxiety gnaws away. But you really can't do anything more so can you find something to distract you in the moments when your mind settles down into a good old worry? Sudoku, podcasts, colouring in, whatever helps.

I'm crossing my fingers for you. If you clicked and the interview went well, I'd bet you've got a far better chance than you think :)

Hoohoohelp · 27/03/2018 16:36

Thank you. Good luck to everyone waiting for news too.
I'm just nervous because I've already been rejected at interview for 2 jobs and it's starting to feel like a never ending cycle. :(

Ahh but those two jobs weren't the right jobs and this one is and you'll get it!

Hoohoohelp · 03/04/2018 14:14

I'm fairly sure I haven't got it. Still haven't heard anything. I've applied for 4 jobs today but it all feels rather pointless. Sad

Don't give up on hearing yet OP.

Some of the "decision makers" may not be back from their Easter breaks yet or an emergency has arisen and they need to deal with that first. Anything can happen!

FilthyforFirth · 03/04/2018 14:26

Ugh, this could have been me two weeks ago. Sadly I didn't get the job and I now have been applying for pointless jobs I don't care about. But an agency have just put me forward for one which sounds brilliant so don't give up hope.

I would assume you don't have it, look for other jobs and have it be a lovely surprise if you do get it. I've got my fingers crossed for you!

Hoohoohelp · 03/04/2018 16:14

filthy how long did they keep you waiting before they told you that you didn't have the job? Being kept in the dark is the worst bit. Good luck with your job opportunity.

I had thr interview on a Thursday, I was the last one to be interviewed and they didn't tell me until the following Friday... Really long I think, I agree with you the waiting bit is the worst. I would rather know straight away if I haven't got it. Thank you, I hope you get yours.

Hoohoohelp · 04/04/2018 10:43

Ah I didn't get it and I had another job interview this morning which I completely flopped. What's wrong with me?? I'm going to stop looking because I think I had more confidence before I started job hunting.

There is nothing wrong with you. Smile

And keep applying because interviews are like everything else, you get better with practice.
Will the first company give you feedback? What was the basis for their decision? Can you learn from that?

Hoohoohelp · 04/04/2018 12:15

They just said like they all have said so far I did well but someone just pipped me to the post. Which isnt something I can really learn from.

Sorry you didn't get the job OP - I absolutely hate applying for jobs and all the hoops you have to jump through, only to then be told you didn't get it. It's so soul destroying!

However - I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, and although you probably can't see it at the moment, that job wasn't right for you and you'll find something even more amazing. Now, I look at each job/interview as a new opportunity to improve - plus, I always go into an interview now with the view that I automatically won't get it. I know that sounds stupid and won't work for everyone, but personally, it helps me relax and I'm much more confident because I'm not putting pressure on myself.

Their feedback sucks - but don't give up hope. You clearly did very well to get through to the final 10, so don't give up!! You can do this Smile!

Hoohoohelp · 04/04/2018 15:11

More annoyingly I've reread the email properly and found out the job went to an internal candidate. Why bother interviewing me then and getting my hopes up for a week. Grrr.
