To think she stole my voucher?

So, went to pick up some food and drink in M&S today. Perfectly nice and helpful young checkout lady... got to the end, receipt came out - I waited for it because dc likes to collect them. The FIRST half of the receipt came out and the woman tore it off and put it ( in a very clandestine manner) folded up and behind a leaflet on the end of her checkout.

She then gave me the rest of the normal
receipt.

I'm pretty sure this was a get £5 off when you spend over £35 voucher (usually get them at m and s)

😡

Dc was about to strop and I couldn't face being confrontational or asking to see the other half.
But, tbh, I feel very much so ripped off!

There might OF COURSE be a reasonable explanation... but, AIBU to think there isn't, and she stole my voucher??

It seems like a big risk for her to take for the sake of a fiver when M&S staff get a big discount anyway. There's probably a reasonable explanation - but if it happens again I'd query it there and then.

BlondeB83 · 25/03/2018 19:36

I would say there is a reason, like the vouchers had a fault and were out of date or something.

TuffTuff · 25/03/2018 19:38

Did you pay by card, and it was the shop copy of the receipt?

BaldricksTrousers · 25/03/2018 19:40

Did I write this?? Because this happened to me about a year ago and like you I was super paranoid.

So paranoid that I emailed M&S customer service with the query of whether my voucher had been thrown out. I gave them the transaction number and they informed me that it had been a duplicate receipt and no voucher had been printed.

I get a bit obsessive about stupid stuff like that. Especially if it involves a deal/voucher/money off. It's a compulsion I'm working on.

Those 5 off 25 don't print off every time...

SandyDenny · 25/03/2018 19:45

It's worth checking with customer services.

I shop in Morrisons when they send me extra points vouchers and always know when I'm due a £5 off voucher

Recently it didn't print off at the till, the in store customers services could tell from their system that it had been issued a few days earlier when I knew I hadn't been in the shop.

I don't know if somehow a member of staff had been able to do it without me being there but the central customers services were very good and put it back on my card without any hassle.

It could be innocent but worth checking

Funny I got a voucher yesterday and it was to use in January! So maybe it was a problem with dates.

ConfessionsOfTeenageDramaQueen · 25/03/2018 20:00

IIRC the vouchers don't print first though. First the receipt prints and then vouchers...

treeofhearts · 25/03/2018 20:02

The first copy is often a merchant receipt. Most machines don't print them anymore but it does give the option to so perhaps she clicked yes by mistake? Easily done.

caoraich · 25/03/2018 20:11

It was probably a merchant receipt. I used to work somewhere that we weren't meant to print them and there wasn't a space inside the till for them (all logged in our system instead) but if you tapped the wrong button it would print one out. I used do it by accident a lot due to my stubby fingers and would store them all behind the receipt machine until there were enough to walk alllll the way to the office where the shredder was.

Hassled · 25/03/2018 20:25

I was eagerly expecting a £5 voucher in M&S the other day and nothing emerged from the till - no weird folding shenanigans from the checkout person. So they're clearly not generated every time (why not? what's the trigger? I can't work it out) - the weird folding thing could well just have been a duplicate receipt.

stellenbosch · 25/03/2018 23:15

Do t think major supermarkets make duplicate receipts?

Often at m&s staff cant use the discount vouchers with staff discount so probably not. But they do customer surveys which print out on till and i kniw some staff either don't agree with them so dont give them out or save them for custoners who they think will give them a good review, both of which is against company policy. But i would guess more likely than stealing your voucher.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 26/03/2018 14:28

My m&s voucher last week printed out second, I'm sure. Was it a clean perforation she ripped off or was it torn?

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 26/03/2018 14:32

@Stellenbosch some tills print merch copies but I doubt m&s would. Could be a dupe of an older receipt- if she's had a printer issue but my best guess is the voucher being out of date or she doesn't want to give you a survey slip. It's not worth her job to so obviously scam you.

I was in M & S this morning to collect a parcel. I asked the sales assistant to check my Sparks card and was told that one of my offers was £5 off food and drink expiring today. Yet I used my Sparks card on Thursday last and spent over the £35/40 limit but did not receive my £5 off. I have noticed I no longer receive e-mails or texts relating to my Sparks card including the one for the sale preview.
