To leave a bad review for this restaurant?

We were on holiday recently and were keen to visit a restaurant rated very highly on TripAdvisor.
Me, dh and 2xDC went on a quiet Wednesday night. There were 12 tables seating probably 50people in total. In the restaurant was a large party of about 8 people and nobody else.
We ordered a bottle of wine costing €38, and water, soft drinks totalling another €10. We then ordered 9 tapas dishes, averaging €5 each so not a cheap meal and would probably have had another similar round of drinks in there.
We were told that we had to order a minimum of 3 dishes each, including my tiny 3yo dd so we were 3 tapas short and had to leave unless we ordered 3 more.
We left. Would it be unreasonable to leave a bad TripAdvisor review?

No, not unreasonable. I hope you took the wine with you!

Silverstreaks · 25/03/2018 18:44

No, not at all. Leave the review so people know what to expect.

Trialsmum · 25/03/2018 18:45

That’s just silly! It’s not uncommon for a 3 year old to share their parents meal. Yes I’d Lea’s right a bad, but honest, review.

Elmosmum · 25/03/2018 18:56

Yep leave the review I've done the same at a tapas restaurant. We went in around 3 pm on a very quiet sunny Saturday afternoon (so not peak time) asked for two glasses of wine and three tapas between us. They said we had to order three plates each! I agree to this policy if it's a busy Saturday night but it was very quiet. Not to mention that is the way you are supposed to eat tapas, snacking with drinks! We ended up leaving so they didn't get any business at all!

Wow. Yes a review 😡

DailyMailReadersAreThick · 25/03/2018 19:06

Of course not. Reviews are there to allow other potential customers to make an informed choice, and that's all you're doing. Potential customers with very small children will be saved the problem you were.

expatinscotland · 25/03/2018 19:16

Definitely leave the review.

KarmaStar · 25/03/2018 19:18

Yes leave a review, alert other families before they are left in the same (embarrassing)situation.

TheJoyOfSox · 25/03/2018 19:18

It is what Trip Advisor is for.
I’m curious as to what area of the uk this happened? (No need to be too specific)

TalkinPeece · 25/03/2018 19:19

YANBU
they deserve to go bust

EasterBunBun · 25/03/2018 19:20

Do review - I can understand if they have a minimum on a Saturday night, someone spinning out opulence of glasses with a token tapas whilst blocking a table that could be used by someone else for a full meal is a problem , but your order was reasonable for a quiet period. As Elmosmum said it also goes against the idea of tapas.

Notevilstepmother · 25/03/2018 19:26

They were in holiday and using euros to buy tapas. I imagine it was Spain not the UK, but I could be wrong.

Viviennemary · 25/03/2018 19:36

I think you ordered a reasonable amount of food. So the restaurant were in the wrong here.

BarbaraofSevillle · 25/03/2018 19:36

Was it Tickets in Barcelona or somewhere else similarly high profile?

I've had tapas in Spain many many times and have never been forced to order 3 dishes per person and often I only have one because I'm still full from having Menu del Dia at 3 pm.

And when we've been to Granada the tapas are free anyway (or included in the cost of the very reasonably priced drinks) so it's rare that we actually pay for any food in the evening.

InsomniacAnonymous · 25/03/2018 19:38

TheJoyOfSox It obviously wasn't in the UK as the prices were in Euros.

TalkinPeece · 25/03/2018 19:41

We had Pixtos in San Sebastian and the good places were wonderful about letting us all (incl 2 small V V stressed kids) have the right amount of enjoyable food

a Spanish restaurant behaving like that REALLY deserves to go bust

GabsAlot · 25/03/2018 19:51

yes leave the review

as opposed to another post who the waitress said ordeded too much food!

if your already spendiing 100 plus what is their problem

ForalltheSaints · 25/03/2018 19:53

What you are stating about minimum orders is fact (I hope) so YANBU.
