Inspired by the substitution of sliced water chestnuts for the actual chestnuts I ordered to go with sprouts for Sunday roast - a totally unrelated product save for the name! Kept it in case I do stir fry or something soon

(Waits for the YABU for cooking sprouts!)

Pedigree Chum instead of Pedigree bitter alcohol! Honest!

shoelaces · 25/03/2018 20:50

Back in the olden days about 15 yrs ago I got a red wine instead of a white wine that was on offer. Asked if I accepted it, didn't think to check just read it was actual wine! I ended up paying the full overpriced price for red wine when I only drank white.

These days I use Morrison's and can honestly say we've had 2-3 substations in the last 3 years. Don't get why subs still happen Hmm

forgotMyusernameAgain · 25/03/2018 20:53

Ordered 6 individual tomatoes.... got 6 family packs .... cant work that one out ....

More recently ordered cottage pie ready meal and got just mashed potato

The ones that make me laugh most is when they substitute what you order with what you ordered Hmm

MongerTruffle · 25/03/2018 20:56

I got a jar of manuka honey (which would have normally cost £20) instead of normal squeezy honey. I'm definitely not complaining. Grin

Whitelisbon · 25/03/2018 21:05

I ordered cat food and got toilet roll. They're on the same aisle in our local asda, so I'm assuming the picker just figured it was close enough.
The cats weren't impressed!

dancingthroughthedark · 25/03/2018 21:08

I have also had the no sub for bread, However, even worse was when I was told no substitute for chocolate!

MrsJ12 · 25/03/2018 21:11

So it’s rare we dont get a substitution but they’re generally fairly sensible but I have had 2 v strangers ones that still make me snigger:

  • A basil plant substituted with a pack of 4 iced doughnuts!! Would have made an interesting pesto!
  • beef jerky substituted with dog chews!! Always told my husband it was awful stuff

Funnily enough I didn’t accept them (although the delivery driver did find the doughnut instance that funny he gave us the donught anyway)

Buxtonstill · 25/03/2018 21:11

Ordered a pack of dried stuffing, and got a bag of sawdust (for pets, hamsters etc) DH joked that they were the same texture before you made the stuffing.

Grenoble124 · 25/03/2018 21:22

No substitute for bread this week.

alcin · 25/03/2018 21:27

Last Christmas my turkey to feed 8 people became one for 14. Only just fit in the oven.

I know someone who had baby wipes substituted with Bells whiskey!

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 25/03/2018 21:28

I don’t remember many as I haven’t done online shopping for years, but I remember when the delivery man said the only thing they didn’t have was the three leeks I ordered - but then realised there was SIX bags stuffed with leeks?! I mean, six shopping bags, not six of the veg bags!

It was nuts! I accepted them though and made lots and lots of soup Grin

jaseyraex · 25/03/2018 21:33

Oh I love these, they make me laugh Grin

Baked potatoes substituted for Yorkshire puddings. I love a Yorkshire but was definitely not suitable for my tuna mayo!

Nappies substituted for wipes. Luckily wasn't in desperate need for the nappies. I don't think wipes would have done the job.

Cat food substituted for dog food. Cats were unimpressed.

mummymummums · 25/03/2018 21:48

Ordered black hair dye. Received a light brown Hmm

GrooovyLass · 25/03/2018 22:05

(Vegetarian)
Ordered veggie sausages, ended up with pork sausages.

Exactly the same thing happened to me.

Also have had dog food instead of guinea-pig food (I mean wtf?) but the best has probably got to be 6 apples instead of a pack of 6 apple pies. I mean I know I need to lose weight but ffs Morrisons do you have to be so mean about it?

drumandthebass · 25/03/2018 22:10

Ordered a chicken pie and got a tub of ready made gravy instead Confused

Mishappening · 25/03/2018 22:19

Ordered a raspberry jelly and got a jar of blackcurrant jam!

underneaththeash · 25/03/2018 22:30

We've had the veggie sausages substituted for the proper ones too....luckily it was our old au pair who was veggie so they got eaten.

I had no substitution for potatoes last week> REALLY???

rockabyebaby1402 · 25/03/2018 23:08

DP used to work in Sainsbury's as a picker so has a fair few stories. Here are a few of the best:
Somebody ordered 2 candles for an 18th birthday, a number 1 and number 8. His colleague substituted for a 3 and 6 with the rationale that they both added up to 9.
Garlic bread was subistuted with a loaf of bread and a clove of garlic.
Onions instead of oranges.
6 eggs instead of creme eggs.
Vegetarian sausages instead of meat sausages.
Paper towels instead of sanitary towels.

hotelduvin · 25/03/2018 23:26

How about when you ask for no bags, and they still bag up one carrot, one potato etc in their own bags, yet leave 14 oranges to flounder around individually in the trays,

Daffodils78 · 25/03/2018 23:30

I once received someone else's shopping.
40 Rothmans, 6 tins of cat food (multipack), a value ready meal (lasagne I think) and a scanner

I returned it to the ASDA van for my bags of food for home cooking and baby supplies. I have always wondered what that persons story was, if they were sad and lonely, and could never work out who they were even though I continued to live on that street. I wish I had known and could have invited them around for a cuppa.

SirensandPomegranates · 25/03/2018 23:33

Ordered veggie sausages and received meat ones. I considered it a bit passive aggressive but it did make me laugh.

jay55 · 25/03/2018 23:37

Ordered 3 fresh sardines, got a kilo.
Have had no milk, toothpaste, salad etc available.
The worst was pork ribs instead of hummus and the driver wAs adement it wasn’t a substitution.

Bluesmartiesarebest · 25/03/2018 23:45

Christmas radio times = local town newspaper. I don't live in that local town.

BuffysFavouriteStake · 26/03/2018 15:20

Had a few weird ones here, but my personal favourite was when l ordered Imodium and they substituted Sennacot.

I laughed all the way to the loo

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 26/03/2018 15:29

This is why I will never do my shopping online. I prefer to pick things myself.
