Sexism at work

I work as a junior doctor - a job I worked very hard to get into. In the team at work all of the ten junior docs are female and all of the more senior doctors are male. This creates a very weird dynamic. Most are lovely but one.... not so much. A junior member of the team didn’t come in to work one day last week (pulling sickies but posting that they were visiting a boyfriend on FB). A senior doctor asked why I was there so late and looking so stressed. I explained that my colleague had deemed herself too important to turn up for work. I was told to ‘relax’ and that this senior member of the team liked that colleague because she was attractive.

How does this shit still happen in 2018? In a healthcare (or any) setting why is having nice tits more important than turning up to work?!?! AIBU to just quit now on principle and go and work in a more female dominated field?

Speak to your educational supervisor. Even if this bloke was joking it's in bad taste.

Yes, of course you would be unreasonable. In a few years YOU will be the senior doctor and then you can keep stricter tabs on your juniors.

Medicine will be female dominated in the near future. Personality trust that are more common in women than men are well suited to medicine. Generally where equality of opportunity exists female the gender balance in medical schools etc is skewed towards women. In the mean time I suggest you just get on with things and ignore your senior doctor. He's a creep and that's on him.

You'd be disappointed in more female dominated fields. The men still seem to end up disproportionately represented in senior positions.

Start documenting all this colleague’s sexist remarks, then take the folder to your Trust’s HR department. There are disciplinary procedures for this kind of thing.

Male posting. However i have 3 sisters and cone from a very female domibated family so this kinda crap winds me up.

In my work we deal witg customers who are assessed by HCPs and a colleague of mine is straight up sexist. At first i though it was elitism. I.e. a Doc is more qualified to carryout these assessments than a Burse. Bit then i realised that he takes exception to a fenale telling him he is wrong

He got a piece of evidence checked by out in house HCP (female nurse). Didnt like the outcome. So re-referred and got the sane advice off a male HCP (Physio) and agreed with it...
