Just discussing honeymoon with DP. I'm planning on taking his name once were married. Our honeymoon will be a few days after our wedding. What happens with my name? When does it change? What about my passport and going on honeymoon?

I've been married two years and still haven't changed mine. As long as your tickets are in the same name as your passport you will be fine which is what we did despite going four months after the wedding.

Book your tickets in your maiden name and travel with your current passport. When you are home from honeymoon do application to get New one.

It doesn't change automatically.

Go on your honeymoon first, and then when you get back, do the paperwork and get your name changed.

You would need to send the passport office your marriage certificate before they can issue one in your new name, so prob easiest to book your honeymoon in your maiden name and sort passport out when you're back.

That's not actually true Pirate you can apply for a passport before you marry in your new name.

I travelled for 2mo under my maiden name for our honeymoon. It made things heaps easier with bookings ahead of time. Once we got back and settled, I worked on all the other stuff that had to be done with name changing.

(and yes, I did take his name. Because mine was very hard to pronounce and spell and people struggled to send me emails. And the men on my father's side were all dicks so I had no attachment to the name whatsoever. Still a feminist!)

I married DH (and took his name) 6 months after getting a new passport. I won't be changing it until it's due for renewal.

You can update your passport at a later date, it's perfectly ok to carry on using it as long as you want to.
Just make sure that any flight tickets are booked in the same name as your current passport.
There is no sudden switch of name where your maiden name becomes invalid - you can continue to use both legally forever.

You can get a passport in advance of your marriage showing your new surname but I really could not be arsed, just book in your maiden name and change passport sometime after you get home (in my case same time as I applied for dd’s first passport )

You can apply for a passport in your married name 3 months before your marriage ceremony, as long as the person who will marry you signs the application form. But, you must then also book the tickets for your honeymoon in your married name. The passport will be post-dated to be valid from the date of your marriage. Information here. I stuck to my maiden name until my passport needed renewing - a good 7 years after my wedding! Just had to remember to book holidays and insurance in my maiden name.

I didn’t change my name on my passport until it expired about 4 years later. I wasn’t going to pay for it needlessly! As long as your tickets match your passport it’s fine as pp have said.

Been married 5 1/2 years. Passport doesn't expire for another 3 years. The only embuggerance is remembering to book flights etc in my maiden name, but it's only a small thing.

I travelled in my maiden name for about 7 years after I got married. No way was I paying for a new passport.
