I own a small cafe. The other day a couple came in and ordered 2 teas. Fine. They sat for 2 hours on their laptops. Also fine as I don’t mind this if we’re not too busy.

One of them then went across the road to Sainsbury’s and bought sandwiches/ crisps etc which they then proceeded to eat in my cafe.

I was gobsmacked as I obviously sell sandwiches/ soup/ everything that a cafe sells as the sole purpose of operating as a cafe.

I asked them very politely if they would mind not eating food purchased elsewhere to which they were highly offended and have now left me a tripadvisor rating of “poor” because I made them feel “uncomfortable.”

WTF?

Knobs! Make sure you put this in your reply.

Glassofredandapackofcrisps · 24/03/2018 18:03

Cheeky bastards! Sorry no advice but Thats unbelievable!!! Hope you responded with the truth!

TenancyTroublesAgain · 24/03/2018 18:04

What a pair of dickheads. Ordering the cheapest thing a cafe sells doesn't entitle you to then do whatever you want.

LoniceraJaponica · 24/03/2018 18:05

Definitely put this in your reply. Also, put up a notice that customers can only consume food and drink bought at your cafe.

They were very rude.

Because they’re fuckwits. No decent person does this.

TopangaD · 24/03/2018 18:06

I’d def reply on trip advisor to say about the Sainsbury’s food.. day what you said here and it will far from hurt your custom. Knobs!

gamerchick · 24/03/2018 18:06

Yes you need to reply man, cheeky gits!

Then get that sign.

cariadlet · 24/03/2018 18:07

I think you were very generous letting them stay for so long after only buying a couple of teas. Unbelievable that they thought it was ok to consume their own food. I can't believe that anyone would think it was ok to bring your own food (other than food for a young baby) to a café.

I'm sure that almost everyone reading their poor review will realise that they are cheeky fuckers and take no notice of it.

Spicylolly · 24/03/2018 18:08

What CF's.... how rude! Make sure you reply to their review! I think you were reasonable to let them sit there that long with just tea in the first place!

TheRebel · 24/03/2018 18:08

I’d put a reply saying you’re not running a picnic area! Honestly if I saw their review I’d ignore it unless there were 5+ more reviews saying the same thing. Cheeky bastards!

gamerchick · 24/03/2018 18:08

‘Whilst I’m tolerant to people coming in to buy one cup of tea and proceed to sit on their laptops for 2 hours. I draw the line of them then visiting a supermarket and then coming back to eat what they have bought there.’

Or something shorter.

Aprilmightmemynewname · 24/03/2018 18:09

You can respond to feedback on trip advisor. Name and shame them so to speak.

flumpybear · 24/03/2018 18:09

That's just rude! Fair enough like you say if you're not busy hang around a while but good from elsewhere is absolutely unacceptable!
Put a sign up

Bluntness100 · 24/03/2018 18:11

Wow, that's fairly outrageous behaviour. Respond to their review. No one will think they are reasonable. or normal

ListeningtoBowie · 24/03/2018 18:11

That was cheeky and rude of them. Just put in your reply why and what you said as a result of what they were doing. Shouldn't harm your reputation.

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 24/03/2018 18:11

How rude! You just don't do that. Cheeky feckers.

Definitely respond to their bad review.

MereDintofPandiculation · 24/03/2018 18:14

Yes, do respond. When I use tripadvisor, I deliberately seek out the bad reviews, which can be very revealing. But I am also swayed by responses from the owners.

outabout · 24/03/2018 18:15

If you offer 'free WiFi', switch it off temporarily.
Definitely CF although I might do it a bit in a major store.

beargrass · 24/03/2018 18:15

Don't know why people do it but we read both sides on Trip Advisor, so if you give your side then this would not bother us. I think you have to reply though

Sarsparella · 24/03/2018 18:16

Wow some people have no shame Shock

Definitely leave a reply to their trip advisor review mentioning the sandwiches!!!

StuckInMyDressingGown · 24/03/2018 18:18

What?! I hope you’ve replied to the review making it clear what they did!

Kittysparks1 · 24/03/2018 18:18

How dare they?! Sit in your premises, using your facilities and then steal your income by bringing in food from elsewhere.

That is quite frankly embarrassing.

littlepill · 24/03/2018 18:21

So rude! Definitely reply to the review!

Fundays12 · 24/03/2018 18:21

It’s rude they should have bought food in your cafe. I would he tripadviser comment being polite but ensuring you state that they were in the cafe for 2 hours which is not a problem but buying food in Sainsbury’s and bringing it over to eat in your cafe wasn’t on.
