We are about to rent a new house and need to request references from our rental agency. Long story short we have flaking asbestos paint in our current house which wasn't repaired until we involved the authorities. The property manager made a few snide remarks about it - to the tune that she knows we involved them, etc. We are now leaving and i know that the landlord is unhappy about it because he is going to lose quite a lot of money - the house cannot be let without some repairs.
I am worried they are going to somehow indicate to the new agents that we were "difficult tenants" because we involved the council. Not sure if this is a reasonable concern. I am just very stressed about the asbestos, moving out , and the nasty battle we had with the agency who did everything to fob us off, ignoring and misinterpreting the contract. If it matters the references are from the agency, not the landlord - they were the ones managing the property.
