My DM who is now in her late sixties has always muttered. This is like she has near-constant conversations with herself, which can range from whispers right up to full-volume speech. Sometimes they can be angry, and very occasionally rude and sweary.

She's done this since I can remember, apparently her mother who I never met did it too, and I also have an inclination to it that I have long stamped out, because I hate it.

It is so weird and disturbing hearing someone walk around the house whispering and talking out conversations to themselves. She knows she does it in general but gets defensive when it's pointed out. I think it's getting worse as she gets older and I'm finding it hard to be around. Does anyone have any experience of this? AIBU being fed up with it? What does it mean when people do this?

How is her mental health generally? It is an odd thing to do, but if she doesn't really see anything wrong with it, she's not going to change now 😕.

Her mental health is fine. She's basically fine too. Maybe highly strung but not outlandishly so.

She does seem to need a lot of noise. There's always a TV or radio on loud somewhere.
