to not know how to get my voicemail working?!

I am fairly sure I am unreasonable on this. I am an averagely tech savvy 31 year old. Some time ago (2 years maybe) I switched off my voicemail on my mobile, because I was sick of having to listen to silent or automated sales/PPE/ambulance chaser calls left as voicemails.

However, I am now job hunting and know that I need recruiters to be able to leave messages when I can't answer my phone at work.

but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the voicemail back on. I've googled it and found solutions that involve 'calling' 2222260## and other such similar numbers. but they don't work. I've also checked the settings with my carrier (EE) because I thought I might have just switched off the voicemail service with them.

I've asked one of my colleagues too but honestly I think I'm going mad.

Can anyone help?

Enable or Disable Voicemail
From the home screen, tap the Phone icon.
Tap the Menu button.
Tap Call settings.
Tap Call forwarding.
Tap the required option to disable or enable (e.g. Forward when unanswered).
Make sure the voicemail number is correct, then tap Enable. Note: To disable voicemail, tap Disable.

er Mission I really really appreciate you trying to help but if from the home screen I tap the phone icon, I then don't have a menu button.

also If I go round the other way through Settings, etc to call forwarding I can switch it on but it asks me for a number to forward to and I don't know that... also it seems to be blanket forwarding not just when unanswered/unavailable.

frank it may not help but it certainly makes me feel better!

Have a look in your contacts list. At the end of mine under v for voicemail there's a voicemail on/ off contact. I never put it there so assume it's put there by phone provider.

ThreeFish · 21/03/2018 12:00

what type of phone?

soupforbrains · 21/03/2018 12:02

it's an iphone SE

I'm pretty sure I had to phone EE to get mine activated again but it was a few years ago so may have changed.

ThreeFish · 21/03/2018 12:07

when you open the phone app, do you see Voicemail at the bottom left?

soupforbrains · 21/03/2018 14:09

bottom right. but yes it's there and I can call it. I get through to the EE service and it lets me change my recorded message etc but there's nothing about switching voicemail ON.

If someone calls my phone and it is off, or rings out, or I reject the call they don't go through to anything. just get 'the number you have dialled is unavailable'.

Just copied this from the EE website:

Voicemail not working
Call diverts allow your callers to leave voicemail messages if you don’t answer. They’re usually set up as standard, but if you find people can’t leave you voicemails, call us on 150 and select technical support. We’ll be happy to set it up for you.

Managing your voicemail while you're abroad
Voicemail messages are free so long as you’re within the EU. Outside the EU there may be a charge.

Turning voicemail diverts off
If you don't want to be charged for voicemails while you're abroad you can switch your voicemail diverts off – text VM
OFF to 150.

This will mean that anyone who calls you won't be able to leave a voicemail message.

Turning voicemail diverts on
When you're back in the UK, you’ll need to turn voicemail diverts on so people can leave you voicemail messages again. Text VM ON to 150.

So going on that your options are:

  1. Call 150, go through to Technical Support and ask them to turn it on again.
  2. Text VM ON to 150. (I know this option was for travelling abroad but it may still work from the UK?).

Er @soupforbrains I do apologise, I should have used my psychic powers before replying.

Do you have a phone icon?

Squirrel26 · 21/03/2018 16:17

I have no idea how to help, but I have also done this on my iPhone SE and I have no fucking clue how. I’m sooo happy not to be the only idiot anymore! Grin

Clevs thanks. The bottom bit of that is what I had to do. It I couldn't find it in the EE site. Found it on a community forum instead.

Had to text "VM ON" to 150.

All sorted now. Thank you everyone for helping!
