Bit of background : I was playing with him on the rug, he's my dog (16 months old German Shepard)

My DH went to hospital with a dog bite last year and apparently they don't give tetanus shots any more? They just sent him home and said to keep it clean.

x2boys · 20/03/2018 10:20

My son got bit by a dog a few months ago my Dr said he would have had at least five tetanus injections from babyhood (he's 11) so he would be fine but it might depend on your age (obviously I cleaned it and put some savlon on it )

madein1995 · 20/03/2018 10:22

Not a Dr but a dog owner and personally I wouldn't. It's only a small nip and only just broken the skin - I'd keep it clean. Wrt the dog you might get some posters going ott about the dog bite, but as it was done in play (dog got overexcited, maybe he grabbed you by accident thinking he was grabbing the toy - mine has done that) i'd let it go

turtletime · 20/03/2018 10:30

I would just keep it clean and apply a dressing. Avoid using antiseptic as it may slow down healing. I have an 18-month-old GSD so know what it's like to have your arm mistakenly grabbed during play.

Thanks folks, I did call gp and apparently my last tetanus was in 1974 so the receptionist is checking with the nurse!!! The dog is now having a bit of a rest!!!

I would go to minor injuries unit in case you need antibiotics. Dog bites can get infected- may be best to let someone take a look.
Btw I'm a dog owner- have long since learned no tug of war with mine!

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 20/03/2018 10:41

Oooh puppy teeth are like little over excited needles! I'd keep that clean and just keep an eye on it, assuming you know you're ok wrt to shots you've already had?

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 20/03/2018 10:42

Ah, x-posted with you. Glad you're getting your jab history checked!

rickandmorts · 20/03/2018 10:59

I get nips all the time like that and I haven't died from tetanus yet!

Rednailsandnaeknickers · 20/03/2018 11:00

No advice on the nip but what a handsome dog!

Mrspotter12 · 20/03/2018 11:02

Aw, no photo of the pup? [disappointed] Grin

Mrspotter12 · 20/03/2018 11:05

Receptionist just called and the doctor has seen the picture, although it looks nice and clean I should have the tetanus as it's been 43 years since my one ...... thanks for the advice folks. Dog is now asleep!!!
