Won a "trip" but only inc flight for 1

Recently I won a trip to America. The only advertisement of the prize was A trip to "specific city", no purchase necessary.

I was really surprised I won and really excited. Then I received an email to send my details to the organiser for my "complimentary flight to the city".
I probably am but AIBU to assume a trip would include a hotel and flights for at least 2 people.

I don't want to go away on my own to America (from UK) for a week and would assume it was at least for two.

I am hoping I have the wrong end of the stick and this is just the flight bit but AIBU?

Presumably the hotel will be for 2 if you share?

You'll need to check the terms and conditions and see what it says about what the prize included.

That's a crap prize. Is the ticket transferable? If it is I would try and sell it. Otherwise I would check the small print and see if you complain. Chances are details are in the small print.

Check the terms and conditions of the competition. It may be that the person who contacted you has the wrong end of the stick.

Check the T&C's. I would have assumed it was for 2 people. I wouldn't want to go to America alone even though it would be an amazing place to visit.

A legit competition? Or one of these daft sales patter things where you get a 'free' holiday that is virtually impossible to go on because it costs you a fortune somehow

are you sure it's legit? There are so many 'win free flight' scams on internet.

It was actually at a convention type thing and a large company was running it so is legitimate.
There were no terms and conditions as such just the completion printed on their leaflets and you had to go to their booth to answer questions and enter.

I had this, at a trade show. Won the 'prize' - a very luxurious catered activity holiday, but it was for one person....the company clearly expected the winner to book a second place at full price. But I was newly single, so off I popped and did the trip on my own. Everyone else was in couples but all older and v. friendly and good company. I had a great time Grin

If it didn’t say it was for 2, then it’s just your assumption that it should be, not that it actually is! If it means you have someone to take, you’ve still got a good deal (look at is as 2 for 1) but obviously only if you can afford it. If it meant 2 of you could fly to New York (or wherever) for £350 or so then that’s a great prize if you can afford to stump up the rest.

If the flight is with a particular airline, then they'll make their money on you bringing another person along with you. It wouldn't surprise me if a few dozen people 'won' a flight with them in the same way.

Sounds like a scam to me too. These types of 'prizes' were quite common around 20 years ago. You get one free flight/etc. but have to purchase another one from a specified company (at an inflated price) if you want to take anyone with you.

It's a bit awkward but then if it was a trip for 2 some people wouldn't be happy as they're a family or 4 or 5 etc.

Just see what's included exactly and perhaps take a friend?

I'm pretty sure the This Morning prize was this kind of thing a couple of weeks ago - 'a' trip and flight which to me means one person.

Sadly it’s a ‘sort of’ scam that’s been around for many years. As in the company can’t be pinned down for it as a proper scam as you do get a flight but you’ll have to pay the flight tax and fly at some unfeasible hour on a date they say. No hotel included usually. They’ll try and talk you into it but honestly it’s not worth the hassle.

I understand it is likely my assumption.
But odd that it wouldn't include accommodation though.
I will likely pay more and take DH.

It did make me roll my eyes at the people complaining about being ungrateful.
Just to clarify, I am still excited I won but annoyed there wasn't more clarity.
