Ds has asd and mental health problems. He self harms and has also attempted sucide many times. He could possible be placed in a care home setting for young people with an asd do morbid mental health conditions or in his current college where he attends as Day student in their residential provision. I'm assuming it will be extremely hard for me to get him funding for the mental health provision? I don't know that he will cope in the standard provision or how things will work out if his mental health reaches crisis point again.

Talk to both places about possible funding options. They may give you ideas as to where other parents have found the money. Plus look in your local library for local charities and write to them to ask to be considered at their next funding meeting for whichever you decide. It's tough being a parent of any kid with a mental health condition. 💐

Thanks for the reply. I don't think I will struggle getting him funding for education but social care funding i think we will struggle

Does he have an EHCP? (or still an old statement?) His Health and Care needs should be on it as well as Education - ask for a review (or a transfer review if he still has a statement).

Contact professionals who you think may help - CAMHS, GP, college if he has self harmed there, to provide evidence and opinions so his case can be taken to panel with as much information as possible evidence that he needs the extra provision.

Contact IPSEA or a local parents support group.

Good luck Flowers

He has an ehcp. He's with adult mental health services but their thereshold for risk is so high so I'm sure they will state he's a low risk etc which is where my worry is.

Even if he is with AMH services, social care will still support him - does children's services go up to 25 in your area yet?

Does he have a disability social worker due to his ASD/MH problems?

User700800 · 18/03/2018 20:02

No he doesn't have a disability social worker.he has a care coordinator at amhs. Child services stop at 18 here.
