So, a woman on Instagram who has a lifestyle/home themed page with a following of over 30,000 is in an unfortunate position in that her dog has fallen ill and is really quite poorly. After numerous updates going out she has now set up a just giving page due to the fact her dogs medical expenses have gone over what the insurance covers them for (5k) Aibu to be a little bit considering their feed is overflowing with pictures of their nice new cars, large detached new build and talk of paradise islands for their holidays? I know these things can hit when we least expect it but most vets offer payments plans, there are other options.

Personally I don't think I could do what they have, I feel it's quite cheeky actually but if people want to donate then it's up to them I guess. Thoughts?

I agree with you but I suppose its down to the individual whether they contribute. I wouldn't though.

A lot of these Instagrammers who show off their amazing life style have got most of their amazing life purchases on credit and are paying it off monthly. She probably could afford to put the bill on a monthly plan but seems easier to get others to pay it off. Personally I wouldn't ever donate to any so called Instagrammer who can afford their luxury lifestyle but not put up their pets bill.

I've also seen this and think it's a bit off tbh. She has a lifestyle most can only dream of.

Nah, doesn't bother me. She's entitied to ask. People can decide for themselves if they wish to donate or not. The only problem I would have with it is if someone was being dishonest about what they were crowd funding for. Like if they were soliciting donations for medical bills but actually using the money for a holiday or a car or anything other than what they specified.

I'm not oblivious to the fact a lot of people appear to have a flashy lifestyle when in fact a lot of it is on credit. They admit their Porsche is on finance and pointed this out to someone who said she could sell her car and labelled them a troll.

Agreed maliboo, when you share that kind of lifestyle with the world, one that most people aspire to have, it's going to rub people up the wrong way when you start appealing for donations...

Exactly @blizzard they can ask but when you're literally plastering photos of your house and videos of your brand new Porsche online and then begging for 2k people are going to judge.

Looks like they've nearly got the money now through donations. I think it's another example of how blinkered the instagram bubble is.

You're definitely not being unreasonable. The sheer audacity of it! surely with all their wealth they could borrow the money and pay it back, but no let's get other people to pay for it! There's so many less privileged people who could do with that type of help, they must have zero dignity!

I'm more baffled at how they refer to anyone pointing out that they could come up with the funds themselves a troll. Do they not appreciate the position they're in and that obviously the appeal will raise eyebrows?? 🤷🏻‍♀️

I agree with you. Maybe instead of spending all that money on their luxuries they should have bought some pet insurance.

Most vets will let you pay in instalments in you are unable to pay the whole bill in one go.
Plus the rspca and pdsa offer help to lie income pet owners.

Yanbu but stop following them. People will do what they will with their own money (I mean the donors). If there's someone out there willing to stump up the cash for their dog then so be it. It is a con but then again you can't help what you can't help.
