Two pence pieces

Has anyone seen the ridiculous prices two pence pieces are up for sale for? I say up for say sale because I haven't seen any actually sold. It's pathetic that people are trying to sell them for upwards of £1000.
Surely this is the mirror or other tabloid rag fuelling the hysteria, I just looked after a friend told me about it and was stunned, it's the £5 note nonsense all over again!

I must have missed something why are people buying/selling two pence pieces?

PanPanPanPing · 17/03/2018 15:07

I've got loads of old 2 pence pieces. Am I rich?!

InterstellarSleepingElla · 17/03/2018 15:08

I believe there is discussion as to remove 1p & 2p from circulation - I can't remember where I saw it - possibly BBC news website a short while ago. Will see if I can find the link.

What?! They can't withdraw 2p's! How am I supposed to entertain the kids while I have a quiet drink on holiday? Those 2p tipping point arcade games are great!

pigsDOfly · 17/03/2018 15:13

Ah okay thanks Interstellar, hadn't seen that. There must be millions of them out there can see them being worth more than their face value for a very long time.

ChelleDawg2020 · 17/03/2018 15:13

What's wrong with attempting to sell them for £1000? I have no idea why someone would pay that for one, but as with any transaction, if the buyer and seller are happy, who cares?

I don't think they'll ever push it through. The impact on charities would be enormous.

InterstellarSleepingElla · 17/03/2018 15:15

@Dementedswan My teenager would be devastated if she could no longer play the 2p machines on holiday! 😂

Quandary2018 · 17/03/2018 15:16

Is it not the coins that say new pence on them instead of two pence from the 70s/80s that are worth lots rather than just all the two pence coins out there?

AlonsoTigerHeart · 17/03/2018 15:18

I'm 32 and still love the penny slots.
They can't get rid

Idliketoteachtheworldtosing1 · 17/03/2018 15:19

My kids love the 2p machines, it's a shame they don't have 1p ones, I should imagine people have loads of them knocking about.
I didn't think about the impact it would have on charities.
When the new £5 notes came out our local facebay was inundated with posts from people trying their luck and attempting to sell them on for silly money.

i read an article about it and looked on ebay, they were selling some old 2ps for about 99p, hardly the £14000 they were going on about.

Bring back the ha' penny! That makes me feel positively Victorian

PurplePotatoes · 17/03/2018 19:45

Apparently it's only the 2p coins from 1983 that say New Pence instead of Two Pence that are the rare valuable ones. My dad makes the 2p push machines so I've told him to check his stash!
