In a coffee shop, just heard a woman go “me and my husband think it’s disgusting you only have one cubicle!”

Which is enclosed, it’s own room. For both males and females.

One person at a time.

The barista went jokingly, “it’s the same as your bathroom at home!”

And the couple are now muttering about how rude she was at the table next to me.

AIBU to think this woman is rather silly?

YANBU

PrettyLittIeThing · 17/03/2018 12:52

Maybe because it's a long wait? Reminds me of the time I was in somewhere with only one toilet and a man was in there for 20 minutes Confused

PaperdollCartoon · 17/03/2018 12:53

Yeh it’s really odd, and not unusual in small cafes/coffee shops

NathusiusPip · 17/03/2018 12:55

The correct response would have been "I think you mean 'my husband and I...'". Now that would have given them something to moan about. Wink

anneoneill · 17/03/2018 12:57

The coffee shop had no WOMEN ONLY SPACES??? C'mon mumsnet, pitchforks out!!

ChelleDawg2020 · 17/03/2018 12:57

It depends how big the shop is. A tiny coffee shop seating a dozen people, one is enough. Any more than that and there really should be multiple ones available.

falsepriest · 17/03/2018 13:08

Assuming it's a small coffee shop with just one toilet ... Couple were twats. FOH staff get the worst of customer crap, but a jokey retort is often taken as THE WORST SERVICE EVER™.

In the words of my delightful, late, landlord father: "if you don't like it, you can go somewhere else".

Iwantmydrivewayformyself · 17/03/2018 13:16

Very small coffee shop. They have a separate disabled toilet, actually, so that’s one good thing.

Yanbu. In my experience small coffee shops and small branches of chain coffee shops only have one enclosed space. It's often so small I wonder how anyone manages to get in and close the door without being a trained acrobat.

LillyputLane · 17/03/2018 13:48

God I hope said woman never goes to my local swimming pool - entirely communal changing rooms, changing cubicles open at the bottom and top same with the shower cubicles Confused

AngryGinger · 17/03/2018 17:18

@lillyputlane was coming to say th same thing. Some family cubicles and the rest just in a room.

What does it matter if they’re not gendered? You’re not sharing a cubicle with anyone.

tinclap · 17/03/2018 17:25

But she didn't mention gender, just complained about having one toilet.

(Although having been a cleaner and seen the difference between men's and women's loos, I'd prefer a single-sex women option almost every time.)

TheOriginalEmu · 17/03/2018 17:28

Unless the Barista is a special owner/builder/property designer/barista, what the fuck is he/she suppsed to do about it anyway??

OutyMcOutface · 17/03/2018 17:29

Honestly I don’t think I could resist correcting her ‘me and my husband’. It’s also beyond my she would think that the barista would see what she thinks.

TheNoseyProject · 17/03/2018 17:36

Is this a gender thing? The op didn’t say that! Yeah the woman was pompous and wrong.

RebelRogue · 17/03/2018 17:54

You assume it is a gendered thing. It could be a smelly 30 mins shit thing, that would occupy the only toilet for ages, you'd have to go in in someone else's stink AND everyone would know!! Grin

VladmirsPoutine · 17/03/2018 17:59

To be fair, I avoid public toilets like the plague. I know some can't but I do. Because they are 99.99% of the time disgusting.

Missnearlyvintage · 17/03/2018 18:01

I'm just thankful if there is a toilet in the vicinity when we're out and about with DCs (5 and 2). Lidl have unisex toilets and I've never found it an issue. I shop there over a supermarket closer to me as Lidl has a toilet and the other supermarket doesn't!
