Just wondering if I ABU

Months ago I booked myself a place on a one-day course relating to a hobby. The course was scheduled for today, with a 9.45 start.
DH is working away so I'd organised childcare.
I left home 40 minutes before the scheduled course start time as I had to get DD to childcare, and get some lunch before arriving at the venue.
On the way there (walking) my mobile rang - around 9.30 - unfortunately before I could grab it from my bag, the caller rang off, and the phone showed no message left. I got lunch, dropped DD off and arrived at the venue to find a notice in the window saying due to the weather, the course was cancelled.
As DD was booked in with childcare I've left her there and I came back home to find a message on my landline at 9.35 from one of the course organisers saying today is cancelled and hopefully it hasn't inconvenienced me/I haven't left yet.

I rang back and spoke to someone else and said I was disappointed that they'd left it so late to advise people. There had been a weather warning issued yesterday so they ought to have phoned then. Apparently (so I was told) this was not possible.

I had my phone on until 11pm last night and checked my email at half-hourly intervals in the expectation that they'd message to say they'd cancel/run the course later in the day.

So AIBU to be annoyed?

That's really annoying. Not good enough to cancel ten minutes before course begins. Of course people would be on their way! I'd be really pissed off

SmallBlondeMama · 17/03/2018 11:26

I would be so annoyed!!!!

TenancyTroublesAgain · 17/03/2018 11:26

They were unreasonable for leaving it so late. Unacceptable really!

RunMummyRun68 · 17/03/2018 11:26

It's annoying

More so because of 'weather'

I'm due to run Reading Half Marathon tomorrow. Lots of races are being cancelled due to weather

It's a sprinkling of snow

SparklyLeprechaun · 17/03/2018 11:29

Really annoying but it's just one of those things. Sometimes things get cancelled at short notice. Don't let it ruin your day.

At least they did tell you. I turned up for a course today and no-one was there apart from me and one other lady. Premises all locked up, no-one turned up. Can't call them as the company running the course hold weekday hours only. Same as you, u had childcare organised. Very annoying.

isitfridayyet1 · 17/03/2018 11:31

I'd be well annoyed!! The least the organiser could have done is text as soon as she woke up. For example 7 am and then followed up with a call.

Very poor customer service, I'd write a bad review, they sound unreliable!

MarklahMarklah · 17/03/2018 11:35

I had just put the computer on when I typed this. I see there was an email at 8.30 this morning. Again, I think it's too late.

A text would have been an ideal solution, friday

As it is, I have some hours free now so I'm blitzing a few jobs.

I've sent an email back saying that unfortunately communicating on the day by email, and particularly phoning so near to the start time is not very organised! I wasn't rude though.

fairy I bet you are fuming.

We've got an amber weather warning for later in the day. The course will have a lot of elderly people on it, so I get that it would be problematic, but emailing?? I can't imagine that many people checked their messages this morning.

It's annoying but, despite the forecast/warning, they probably couldn't tell whether the bad weather would be disruptive until shortly before the session.
