Reading cards

Is it rude to read other people's greeting cards while in their House? Cards that are "up", so say on a widow sill/ shelf etc.

Condolence cards yes

therockinggazelle · 16/03/2018 20:28

But not rude to read other cards like birthday/ mothers day etc?

Who's house?

I would with my family, but not friends.

therockinggazelle · 16/03/2018 20:30

Family members house

I wouldn't. Looking at the fronts is fine but I would think it is a bit intrusive to read the insides

SparklyLeprechaun · 16/03/2018 20:31

I wouldn't. To me, it's akin to reading someone's bills because they left them out.

LimonViola · 16/03/2018 20:31

Yes I think it's rude. It's private correspondence. Fine to notice the cover but rude to look inside.

Why would you just get up and go pick the card up and have a nosey anyway?

sirfredfredgeorge · 16/03/2018 20:31

The front of them is fine, opening them to read of course it is rude!

Ihatemyclients · 16/03/2018 20:32

Yes I think that is a bit rude unless it's a very close family member like your mum

Ohyesiam · 16/03/2018 20:33

I wouldn’t like it, they are up for that recipient, not because they are public. If someone said “ can I have a look” I’d be ok with it, but if I saw them just nosing I’d think it was rude. I am really private though.

DannyLaRuesBestFrock · 16/03/2018 20:33

I wouldn't have an issue with my sisters/brother/mum reading my cards and I think it's nice to see the messages my siblings wrote to my mum on mothers day.

They don't care and I don't either.

Definitely not like looking at someone's bills.

therockinggazelle · 16/03/2018 20:34

Thank you. My mum does this in my house and it drives me mad! I would never read someone else's cards regardless of how close we are. I was just curious if I was being touchy.

Suppose it depends on if you are a private person and your mum is intrusive generally.

We aren't really a nosey family, but I think it's nice to see nice things people have written about the people you love.

I deffo would not look at their bills/wage slips etc

sirfredfredgeorge · 16/03/2018 21:18

mind you, I think it's completely weird to put cards on show at all, and that is an easy solution.

RemainOptimistic · 16/03/2018 22:12

No that's really rude.

Does your DM cross other boundaries too?

Not so far as re arranging your furniture while you're away I hope Wink
