Morning,

Posting here for traffic

We have a 5yr old that has recently been diagnosed with asthma. He is on a preventer which has reduced the need for a&e admission greatly!

After a bad experience abroad we are now considering holiday options....feel worries about overseas travel however feel we could all do with some sun!

Anyone in similar situation? Can you suggest anywhere with excellent hospitals?

Thank you in advance

Most hospitals in Europe would be just as good as home. What about Giraltar?

Gibraltar

France, Spain, Italy. USA, Singapore, Australia. Just make sure you've got the right insurance cover.

Thank you, can anyone recommend specific areas where they know specific hospitals which are good?

I also have asthma and hadbad experiences abroad, so understand your concerns! You might want to consider where they speak good English and would treat asthma regularly. So I wouldn’t go for say Thailand, Singapore etc. Also check insurance, because if he has been admitted it will make it really expensive, you might need a specialist insurer.

Does he have any triggers that might be worse abroad? For example I am not so good in hot humid places but fine in the desert.

If you don’t already have any, maybe get some oral steroids/antibiotics just in case.

You probably need to speak to you paediatrician. Our DS2 has asthma and probably passed on from me. 😢 If you speak to your Dr They May well prescribe steroids and antibiotics for you to have ‘on standby ‘

I've been told by go no steroids will be prescribed! If he needs them should be in hospital! Might stick to uk this year I think

I let might not be to your taste but what about a med cruise. The onboard medical facilities on board say Royal Caribbean I think comprise of icu, ventilators etc so you wouldn’t be more than a few decks from help when at sea and if you keep ports to Spain, France etc it should be fine on port days too. You could also travel to the med without flying. Alternatively paphos in Cyprus is very good. The state hospital and can also recommend St. George’s clinic (private) not used either for asthma but v impressed for other situations. Also they seem used to doing medivac to uk if necessary due to large numbers of expats.
