Posting for traffic.

I know IABU but I am terrified of the dentist! Blush

Going this morning because I think I have some kind of infection where my wisdom teeth are. Painful, swollen face and I can hardly open my mouth.

I am freaking out about what they will do! Blush How can they do anything if I can't open my mouth?? Will they force it open??? Shock Just sitting in the chair terrifies me.

I know I need to pull my big girl knickers up but does anyone have an idea of what to expect?

Thanks in advance!

If it's an infection today will probably be taking an x-ray, having a quick look and prescribing antibiotics. You may well need an extraction or root canal in a couple of weeks but you should be able to open your mouth at that point. Try not to panic. Good luck!

Take a breath or 2 they will not force you to do anything they will ask you to open your mouth and look in you have to tell the dentist your fears so they can help you.

Explain how nervous you are - dentists are very good with anxious people.
They definitely won't force your mouth open.
It sounds like pericorinitis and you will be given antibiotics if it is.
Good luck. Thanks

It makes life difficult for a dentist working on a tooth which is attached to a nervous or uncooperative patient. They'll do everything they can to make things easy for you.

I am frightened every visit but my dentist is great she is very patient with me but if a dentist doesn't know how nervous you are it is going to make the visit worse.

Thank you so much everyone! Leaving in a minute Sad Just had to google pericorinitis but it does sound like it. Fingers crossed it's nothing too scary! Thanks again x
