How much did your wedding cost?

Average wedding is around the £27k mark in the U.K. I can't think of a wedding I've attended or known of that could of cost this much? no judgement if people do pay this amount, but it seems pretty crazy! I can't believe that it is the average, unless most are paying £5k and the £1,000,000 do's are throwing off the averages?!

How much did your weddings cost?

About 14k in 2015. I didn't feel as though I had to scrimp on anything, but I cut down a lot of the expense by avoiding all bridal shops and sourcing decorations / outfits, etc from places like Etsy.

I can't remember exactly but it was alot, in hindsight I would have gone off somewhere sunny just us and close family and friends if they wanted to come

Mine is looking like around 2-3K once all the stupid extras are factored in, because it turns out there is no such thing as a cheap wedding if you want to actually invite people.

I suspect these 20K + averages are based on asking the kinds of people who read all the wedding magazines and use the big expensive venues. They're then released by the "wedding industry" to make people feel like spending the equivalent of a house deposit on a wedding is normal.

Last year, around 35-40k all in.

Couple hundred quid

Ooh all told about £7k including stag and hen. I got some good deals off groupon and saved a ton that way.

Ours will be about 6k including a 2 week honeymoon. We are getting married on a cruise and it costs £1500 plus the cruise price. That's for us and our two daughters to go.

About £20k. Cheap venue, reasonable dress, most of our budget went on catering, entertainment and wine. Lots of wine.

£1200 in 2016 held in the US.

My wedding gown was a gift though and the church didn't charge us either.

Most weddings I have been to lately have been easily £15-£25k (I know this because I know what the venues charge and what the dress cost!)
Venues are expensive - usually at least £5-10k, then catering, dress, flowers, cars, rings, decor etc all adds up so I can easily see how people spend more than £20k easily for a very "average" do.

On the other hand, we spent £4k on our wedding. No guests, just us in a gorgeous hotel for 4 nights (England, not abroad). We then spent £5k on a later honeymoon. Even that was quite a lot for just 2 people! But I loved it.

About £2000. Would have been less but mum persuaded me to do it a bit more fancy - originally priced it at about £700 for a meal and registry office for immediate family only.

I can’t fathom paying the equivalent of a brand new car or a deposit on a house for one day. I really can’t. It seems so ridiculously showy.

PS my car cost £1k and the deposit for my house was £7.5k!

£1100 last year. 20 people, registry office, lunch at a good country pub then cake and drinks at PILs. It was perfect - no stress and we're no less married than people who feel the need to spend £10k.

What's included in that figure? Does it include engagement ring, wedding rings, honeymoon? Or it is just the day itself?

£12k about five years ago. We had everything we wanted (except Chesney Hawkes playing the reception, which apparently he’d do for £2k plus food, sadly my now DH told me I’d have to marry someone else if it was a deal breaker).

We ignored lots of bits though - no cars, minimal decorations, no musicians (if I couldn’t have Chesney I didn’t want anyone ;)) one bouquet of flowers and that was it. Most of the money went on food and booze for about 80 guests.

120 day guests and 180 night time at a big country hotel

I can’t remember!! It was 2006 - it was either £14k or £24k including honeymoon. It definitely had a 4 in it! Think it was £24k - honeymoon was nearly £10k, so that makes sense. So wedding itself was £14k.

£5000 in 2013 for 40 guests, wedding ceremony/wedding breakfast/reception all in one country house. My dress included in that. In the south east. It was a weekday though which saved £3000.

In the region of £10k which was literally everything including the honeymoon. We only had 35 guests though and it was such a wonderful day. I don’t regret the money. Our mum’s each gave us roughly a third anyway.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira (awesome name btw). I think it depends on where you are in the country. We’re London so that was a good deal (I appreciate it doesn’t sound it). But that said, a house deposit is considerably more!

1996 £10,000

Ours was probably around that mark though we never saw the drinks bill (free bar) as parents paid directly so I don't know the final total.
I have been to one wedding that would have been much much more, 30 or so friends and family abroad for a weekend, b+g covered all flights, food, drink and accommodation for the whole weekend. Evening entertainment included a 30 piece swing band, fireworks etc. It was stunning.

£87. We were on holiday in Las Vegas and decided to get it over and done with whilst we were there. We'd been together 11 years and just wanted to be married, we didn't want a wedding. We had to tip people like the minister, limo driver etc but the actual wedding itself was £87. That was 18 years ago.

Cost of the registry office and a ten pound dress

Mine will be towards the end of this year and I'm planning on about £3.5k all in.
