Brussels night coach AIBU

Hi everyone,

Sorry to post such a boring thread! Shamelessly posting for traffic Blush

I’m heading to Brussels tomorrow for a few days, and will be getting into Bruxelles Nord train station at 5:30am tomorrow (I'm getting the night coach from the UK tonight).

I’m getting the train to Bruges from Bruxelles Nord just before 8am tomorrow, so have around 2 and a half hours to kill between my coach getting into Brussels and the train leaving for Bruges.

AIBU to ask if anyone knows of any cafes near Bruxelles Nord that might be open from about 5:30/6am where I could go to get a coffee while I wait for the Bruges train?

Tried Googling, but nothing seems to be open at that time, so thought I’d try you all :)

Thanks very much!

Ooh actually sorry the coach gets into Bruxelles Nord train station tomorrow at 6:30am, not 5:30.

Brussels Nord is right next to the red light district so not a particularly lovely area to be wondering around if you don't know it, but at 6.30 there will be cafes open at the station where you can kill some time - there's a Starbucks there that opens early. Would recommend just doing that!

Just come back from Bruges. There are lots of cafes within the station at Brussels north which will be open at that time

Great :) thanks very much, flugel and Auntpetunia! Auntpetunia, just wondering what you would recommend visiting in Bruges? Hope you enjoyed it :)

We visited Bruges last January and did the tour of the Half Moon Brewery. It cost less than €10 and after the tour you can exchange your ticket for a glass of beer. The stairs are a bit scary at times but I managed them and I'm a wimp Grin

Thanks Woolly :)

If you’re looking for recommendations then I challenge you to find De Garre! It’s on the map near the belfort but on the ground it’s hard to find. Well worth the effort ..leather bound menu ..of just beer!

I’ll have check on the names of the places we ate, some cheap and cheerful some a bit more expensive all lovely.

I, too, would stick to the Starbucks in the station - the area around gare du nord isn't very nice, and wandering around with bags on my own looking a bit lost wouldn't be my favourite way to spend time...
