Just went into Tesco Express that I go to 3/4 times a week so know the staff. I had just taken my boys (5 & 4) into the balloon shop next door and gave them money to pick a Mother's Day Balloon. They picked a lovely "best mum" one with the help of staff. I was holding the balloon in Tesco. .. Member of staff cracks up and says "you obviously bought that for yourself " in front of customers. I feel sad.

I think she was just having a joke

I'd have come back with something funny

Don't sweat the little things

Namechangetempissue · 11/03/2018 11:03

It was a joke! You know it isn't true, so why does it matter?

witchofzog · 11/03/2018 11:03

They picked it and what 5 and 4 year old is able to independently go and buy something unless a family member can take them anyway? There are lots of single mum's without family who do this too. Yanbu. It was unnecessary what this staff member said

Rainbowqueeen · 11/03/2018 11:04

Oh dear, I'm sorry.

Try not to let idiots bother you. Anyone with half a brain would not have said that.

Your kids sound lovely. Focus on them today and remind yourself what a great job you are doing in raising them. Teaching kids to buy thoughtful gifts is a fantastic life lesson and one lots of adults don't seem to have judging by the threads on here.

Oh no that's quite nasty actually. But then she was obviously having a "joke" at your expense! I would have been so embarrassed.

WorraLiberty · 11/03/2018 11:05

Think about it.

They probably assumed you bought it for your mum

So saying you bought it for yourself, was their little joke.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 11/03/2018 11:06

It doesn't matter how well the staff know you. You never know your customers that well where by you can pass personal comments.
Also how did they know it was for you. It could have been for your own mum.

Flutterbyeee · 11/03/2018 11:08

They know I am a single mum. Have been for the five years I have lived here. On the funny side my 4 year old gave me a card he had made and hidden in his book bag saying "Dear Mum. .thank you for making dinner". Ha ha
