....the death penalty in America? And elsewhere in the world?

I have been watching the BBC Series "Life and Death Row: A Mass Execution" and have found it very thought provoking. It's also enlightened me as to the process which takes place.

Does anyone know of any information (articles, books etc) that would be worth reading?

The classic text is "A Handbook on Hanging" by Charles Duff - an entertaining read although focused on British hanging so not current.

Also "My Experiences as an Executioner" by James Berry is an enjoyable book, about late-Victorian hanging in the UK. This is available on archive.org.

Be warned though, the more you read about executions, the more convinced you become that the death penalty is a good thing!

I did some research about it during my college or uni years - miscarriages of justice in the UK and those posthumously pardoned. It's a bit of a itch for me.

My Dad tells me that his Dad used to drink with Pierrepoint. Although how true this is I don't know.
