WIBU to go to the gym

I work in a call centre and I’ve got laryngitis, emailed my boss to see if I could come into work and do admin but he said no, there isn’t any work to do.

The thing is that other than having lost my voice and a sore throat I feel fine, I was trapped in the house last week because of the snow and now I’m bored witless not being able to go out, WIBU to go to the gym and do a gentle workout and a swim? Or if I’m off work sick am I expected to sit in the house all day?

I’d say go but it wouldn’t look great if potentially someone you work with sees you there.

SEsofty · 06/03/2018 12:41

Of course you would be unreasonable. You are off sick. And your throat infection could be infectious.

MrsElvis · 06/03/2018 12:58

It would look really bad if your spotted there. Also you don't want to spread it round the gym

TheRebel · 06/03/2018 12:59

I did think it might look bad if someone saw me, but if it was a normal office I’d go in and just not answer the phone, and I made it clear to my boss that I felt fine other than not being able to speak but his answer was if you can’t go on the phone then don’t come in.

The only other time I’ve been off sick was when I was in hospital so I’m not really sure if even going out to the shop to get bread and milk is ok or if you’re literally supposed to quarantine yourself.

'It won't look good if anyone sees you and you could be contagious and the person you spread it to could get really ill. Can't you do a workout at home or go for a walk (staying away from others).

Popping to the shop is different if you need to get food but you really don't need to go to the gym.

TenancyTroublesAgain · 06/03/2018 13:53

You're off sick purely because of your voice. Your boss knows this and confirmed you can't do anything else so don't go in. You're not exactly going to the gym to do vocal warmups.

It would be different if you claimed to be bedbound, but that's not the case.

Though there is the issue of spreading it, yeah?

Enuffsenuffsenuff · 06/03/2018 14:24

Tbh even if you feel fine you shouldn't go in to work with laryngitis or you risk spreading it. I would say the same is true of the gym.

MorganKitten · 06/03/2018 14:27

Your immune system is weak, you work out you make it worse. And you may give people at the gym your bug/germs.

TheRebel · 06/03/2018 15:57

So I’ve decided to stay in and not spread my germs around any more than I have to!

I’m going to give the house a thorough clean instead Sad
