Has anyone ever got a job off the back of their transferable skills without taking a 50% pay cut?
I'm sick of my job but too scared to leave. Probably only about 100 people in the country do a similar job to me at some level, fewer than ten at Head of Department level, which is where I am now. Feel like I've completely fucked my career by pigeonholing myself too early. It's an industry notorious for being cut throat and ruthless and I've seen several people stay for years, give their whole life to the company then get spat out, burnt out and demoralised.
My partner thinks I'd be able to get another job in another industry but having dipped a toe in it seems like everything vaguely related (PR, Marketing, Media, TV) requires 3 years experience before they'll even meet you.
Has anyone else had any experience of this? Has anyone retrained or changed careers and ended up happier? Would love to hear your stories for inspiration!
