To want to know how to make work pay ( going back after maternity leave)

Posting for traffic well kind of...

So my LO is 6 months now and maternity money isn’t cutting it...I took redundancy at my last job before I went on mat leave. So I’m looking for jobs now part time initially, and how do you make it work?!
Childcare is roughly £261 a week, and travel in London is £32 a week. Even with tax credits to pay towards childcare I’m not left with enough to pay my rent and bills. My OH will pay all the rent now and will have to cover our food and even then it’s going to be tough.

Am wondering if working 2 full days rather than the same hours split over4/5 shifts is better?

AIBU to not go back to work just yet?

And before I get any catty comments saying I should of thought of this before breeding, I did, however, I am in the 2% of the population that their IUD decided not to work...

what kind of work do you do? Is it something you could do opposing hours to your OH? eg if you're a secretary you could do night secretary work in London, then you might just need to pay a babysitter for an hour or two until OH gets home. It's tough, I earn a good salary but pretty much work for nothing after childcare

It is tough, but it’s only relatively short term. Once they turn 3 then costs reduce a bit and you’ll have cash that you didn’t have before.

You could SAH and be no worse off if that works better but you may find it more difficult to find a job in future years if you want to.

I do office/operations management, and my OH works 6-4 mon to fri... I’ve looked for afternoon/night jobs and working from home but there is very little about.
