Hi all - I'm at in a debate with myself (single parent) and am hoping to pick your brains.
My DD will be starting Secondary school in September. Many of her friends already have mobile phones (some since year 4) and most of the rest are getting them because they "need them for secondary school".
Is this really the case? I will be dropping dd off at school at 7:30am (breakfast club) and collecting her after activities at 5pm. If there is any change of plan, like a cancelled club or bad weather the school will contact me directly. Why does she need a phone? The pupils at her new school can carry/use phones throughout the day at school and I can't see how this is anything more than a distraction/gadget contest. However, I am willing to be proved wrong!
Just for info, I am not a total dinosaur, she has an old iPad at home for games/YouTube and has not expressed any interest in contacting friends online outside of school.
Am interest to hear your thoughts.
Thank you
