Blowing your nose.

AIBU to suggest that if anything is exiting your body (with the exception of breastmilk) then it should be done in a locked toilet away from me.

No I'm not BU. It's gross. Guess this thread was pretty redundant Grin

yabvu.

TruJay · 04/03/2018 15:50

I wholeheartedly agree with this, if I'm eating in a restaurant DO NOT blow your nose at the next table, it's fucking disgusting.
Wiping your nose, a little sniffle absolutely fine in public but allowing slimer from ghostbusters to exit your face in full view and hearing of others is so foul

Bramble71 · 04/03/2018 15:51

Can't win. People don't want us to blow noses in public, then moan when we're constantly sniffing. YABU.

Alloftheboys · 04/03/2018 15:52

What do you suggest for people with a cold on a bus?

DramaAlpaca · 04/03/2018 15:55

I realise people do have to blow their noses, but I was quite revolted at the man noisily doing it at the table next to mine in a restaurant the other day. Just horrible. His eating companions didn't seem to mind though.

sillyoldwitch · 04/03/2018 15:57

I have a chronic nasal drip due to allergies, so in your ideal world I should just stay in the toilets? Does this rule only apply in restaurants? What about other public places with no toilet facilities? Maybe I should just stuff tissue up my nostrils Hmm. I also sneeze a lot due to my allergies. I always try to sneeze into a tissue but sometimes I only manage to get my hand in front, should this be done in the toilets too?

HotCrossBunFight · 04/03/2018 15:58

The thing is, yes it's unpleasant but when you've got a heavy cold you've little choice. We can't stay locked up at home until it's all gone and you can't keep running to the bathroom every 5 minutes to blow your nose. If you don't blow it you'll be sniffing continuously which (IMO) is worse.

Bambamber · 04/03/2018 16:00

I prefer people blowing their noses instead of sniffing really hard so it all goes down their throat, which they then noisily cough up.

lils888 · 04/03/2018 16:01

@HotCrossBunFight of course not and that all sounds pretty horrible.

I will continue to silently protest in my head as it does make me heave. These days you can't be U without rate exceptions popping up to prove you are in fact very U.

I dont mind if its just a little blow to clear the nose... its the huge blows that you hear the other sode of the room that last a good 5 minutes haha like you actually hear the snot coming out of them.

Laiste · 04/03/2018 16:03

I think there's levels of nose blowing.

  • The quick blow which is mostly air.
  • The more meaty blow with a bit of substance.
  • The huge blow which you just know has been too much for the hanky and has to be followed up with a clean up and a second blow.

The first two would be ok at the table. Third one should be done away off somewhere.

I've made myself feel sick.

Wipe in public, blow in private.

CavoliRiscaldati · 04/03/2018 16:06

yes and no

It's better to blow your nose than sniffle, and in some places you don't really have the choice. It would be polite not to, but I think that's a rule which is a thing of the past!

Oh lol,I love that sequential description of nose blowing & nose detritus

Laiste · 04/03/2018 16:07

sniffing really hard so it all goes down their throat

bam i've just got over 2 weeks of tonsilitis with a constant drip/run down my throat and it would NOT come out with a blow no matter what i did, i had to keep snorting it back and swallowing. Bloody disgusting! Never had that before. Yuk.

TruJay · 04/03/2018 16:07

I have severe allergies too, that is a completely different scenario to mine and drama situations in restaurants, it's horrible. Also sneezing is completely different too. Everyone knows what the op means, when you have to blow your nose and people can hear you in space, don't do it close to others, it is gross especually when they're eating

lils888 · 04/03/2018 16:07

I'm regretting this thread Envy

Cleanermaidcook · 04/03/2018 16:08

I have a constantly runny nose due to allergies, i'm also prone the the crime of sneezing frequently too. - I would never leave the house! YABVU

AfterSchoolWorry · 04/03/2018 16:08

I have to do it in private. My sinuses are permanently dodgy. I always excuse myself and go to the bathroom.

TruJay · 04/03/2018 16:08

Laiste exactly my stance on it, very well put

Laiste · 04/03/2018 16:11

Thank you tru.

Gwenhwyfar · 04/03/2018 16:14

Are you Japanese?
Can you imagine the queues in public toilets if we had to go to the toilet just to blow our noses?

BestestBrownies · 04/03/2018 16:14

OP you'll just have to up sticks and move to Japan. Public nose-blowing is considered a MAJOR faux-pas over there. Akin to farting loudly and unashamedly would be here.
