I believe that people can be led into states of trance which can result in frenzy and group hysteria which can affect their actions. The same thing can happen in those charismatic churches that exist. It’s not woo though.

Voodoo isn't all dolls and zombies. It's a fully fledged religion, and a pretty fascinating one at that. It's no more "hocus pocus" than Christianity, or Islam, or any others. Indeed, voodoo incorporates many elements of catholicism.

There’s a church that practises Santa Maria, which comprises some elements of voodoo and some of Catholicism as far as I understand, not far from my house. Sometimes you can hear the services from the street. And they got in trouble for leaving unbagged chicken carcasses out for the bins. So I’m pretty sure they’re doing stuff and people believe it!

I don't know. Just now reading the wiki entry on Haitian Vodou alone makes me realise just how little I know about it. I know from experience that spirits and afterlife are real, so who knows? Like I said, I don't know enough about it.

I find it quite interesting and have read a bit about it. I don't personally believe in it in the sense of practicing it but then I don't actually practice any religion. (Also another who clearly orders too much food on my phone!)

This sounds mad, but I’ve studied and been interested in vodou for a long time (hi, art school) and I definitely do. Mostly I think it’s just a way to feel control over the uncontrollable, but some crazy shit has happened to me that I can’t explain. I’m not spiritual, but I would never EVER fuck with vodou or the loa.

I know someone who goes to a voodoo church, she’s nice but absolutely bonkers. I don’t know if the two things are related but I strongly suspect they are.
