Apologies for posting I AIBU but more traffic here and I've NC as it's identifying! Not sure if I should call an emergency plumber (or should I wait until tomorrow) for a leak coming through the kitchen spotlight from the bathroom above? Been leaking for half an hour now after I had a shower and no signs of stopping, no leaks in the bathroom so I assume it's coming from the bath drain pipe somewhere after the water drains down the plug hole, 3 large mixing bowls full of water so far. Pics attached. Anyone a plumber or married/living with one for some advice?! Will my ceiling come down?Confused

Not a plumber.

That's more water than you used in the shower yes? So must be coming from a feed pipe somewhere, do you know where your stop tap is?

gowernotthegower · 03/03/2018 01:30

Likely to be a burst pipe. Turn off your water supply

If it’s three mixing bowls, I don’t think it necessarily is more than a shower’s worth of water?

FWIW, we had this exact thing happen in December and I was convinced it was a burst/leaking pipe, but it wasn’t. There was a gap in the seal around the bath and all the water had come through there during DS’s particularly spray-heavy shower. It built up and then eventually leaked through the downstairs light fitting. Bath was resealed and all was well.

Hope yours is as easily fixed.

If it stops, wait a bit and then try running just a small quantity of water to see if it leaks through.

It's 5 bowls now and still not stopping, only one person got back to me for a quote of £300 per hour. I'll check the seal! And stop cock is outside the property so will brave the snow and turn it off 😓

You're gonna need to flick the fuse off for your kitchen lights too.

Do you have emergency plumber cover as part of your insurance?

Grobagsforever · 03/03/2018 10:30

I had this. Was a frayed hot water hose under bath. Check your home insurance for emergency plumber.

Sometimes water can take a little while to work it's way through so could be the shower leaking. Had similar when I had my cousins' kids to stay one summer & the youngest decided she was too scared to have a shower with the shower door shut but fine to lock the bathroom door Confused. Light fitting in room below was completely buggered but luckily not too much other damage.
Hope you've managed to get it sorted this morning OP.
